i import these things to my country, so i must know everything :).
will have just bug fixes for software (already done i see), and big stock. factory says that still no mfd support. This will come sometime in november-december. The thing is that maisun have same device in work....based on same software, don`t know anything about the hardware.

yes, 6050 now have 800x480 screen !!!!! maybe same hardware but same software ( still need to confirm the gps processor is different ) , but the screen is top quality. I ordered one for tests.

first is 6506 maisun with digital 800x480 and new menus
second is 6050 digital 800x480

Petrutms, this wd6050 are 800x840 screen resolution?

Can anyone with these units with the 800x480 show how the IGO maps look in the higher resolution. I don't really care where the maps are for, but 3D view would be great. Thanks in advance.

have you found any other bugs with the unit? are you able to post some quick videos of the unit autually working?

A couple of considerations

I noticed last night when I turn on the unit, and have a mobile paired... it says something in mandarin through the speakers...

dont know if you can disable this ?

and also the Radar voices are all in mandarin.. no way to change this to english through the menus

Im hopeful in future firmware releases will have english, not chinese.

Beeping when touching the screen.. no way to disable this through the menu
Beeping when you turn the knobs as well..

has anyone else installed this unit? any more feed back

I saw one running on the weekend. It looked good. I had to get 800x480 drivers for IGO for the owner. Came up a treat. He is real happy.
Had Ipod stuff come up in the MFD too.

I have ordered one for myself.

hmm haven't been keeping up with the newer units. This one looks interesting though. I wonder if there is any way to load the "new" interface onto the older WD6050 units. That would be awesome.

unit turn off like factory unit does?

Hi all

Can someone please confirm or deny that this unit can operate with the car key in the '0' position? I have a WD6050 unit and it will operate only when the car key is in position 1 or 3 and it bugs me alot..

Let me explain a bit more.... there are 3 positions on the VW car key switch.
'0'position no dash lights
'1' position dash lights on ie. car battery, seatbelt, EPC. lights are illuminated on the dash. This is also the position the key springs back to once the car engine is started. "
"3" position the ignition of the engine. This is a momentary position.

The reason I ask this question is if you want to operate the unit without the engine running. Leaving the key in position '1' will draw a lot of power from the battery. Because other accessories are powered too... like the fan and aircon, glowplugs in desiel engines.

the way the original unit worked was that it did not turn on when the key was in position 0 but after turning the key to position 1 or 3 and turning the unit on. after that when you turned the key back to position 0(shuting the engine) the original unit would stay on! where my current wd6050 turns off!
and the original unit would automaticaly turn off only when you pull out the car key from the car key hole

can anyone check if the wd6150 or the new 6506 will turn on and off like the original unit and not like the wd6050 does?

this is something that realy bugs me and I mayte consider buying this unit if it will turn on and off the same way the original does

Thanks and sorry for the long story..

Yes the wd6150 does work with the key in position 0. Once the key is pulled out and the door open, the unit switches off.

If the door is not opened the unit will remain on.

Theres a couple issues that are really bugging me with this unit.

1. There is a major ground loop issue with the unit. A constant buzzing noise comes from the speakers when my lights are switched on, and increases in pitch as the engine revs. I have tried unplugging the antennas, and still there is noise. My conclusion that its coming from the deck itself.

2. I have a MFD 1. and the up/down arrow keys do not work to change track. Only the volume up/down and mute, telephone key works.

3. Due to the ground loop in the unit, the external mic is also affected and is very poor sound quality because of all the noise. This almost renders the bluetooth phone useless.

4. Cannot watch video while the handbrake is down. The video display says "Warning do not watch to Master" This is by far the MOST ANNOYING thing with this unit. Since the decks ebrake is going through a canbus decoder, there is no brake wire you can ground to bypass the ebrake lock. The point of having a 170Km/h DTV tuner support is so you can have the tv whilst driving right? This makes almost makes the unit useless for me. My passengers cant watch TV or watch DVD when im driving.

5. TV reception. I baught a 90DB active antenna for this unit, and still the DTV reception is piss pooor. I live in sydney, australia and cant even pick up channel 7,9 or 10 unless im in the CBD and stationary.

6. The GPS. On the 6050 there is a button which looks like 2 arrows in a circle next to the eject button. This button enables audio priority between your GPS app and radio, dvd, ipod etc... the wd6150 does not have this button. Even though it is stated in the specs that there is "Dual Audio - can watch GPS while listen to radio" This is still very buggy. When I have the radio on, then switch to GPS, the radio will work while the GPS is running.... for a few minutes, then it switches off and permanently prioritizes the GPS audio over the radio. Therefore, watching the GPS while having the radio on is not possible.

if any of the above matter to you then, i would re-consider buying this unit. Or if you know how to fix these issues yourself then by all means help me out while your at it!

Ive sent 4 emails to Fish at waywell about the ebrake lock, and havent recieved any replies at all. I really dont think they care.

Anyway you get what you pay for, the GUI on the interface is by far the best i have seen for a china unit. however just a few issues can ruin the experience of this unit.

Just a quick note folks... I've bought and installed one of the new W6050 with 800x480 res...

Comments above suggest the main diff's are an external mic on 6150, and new menu interface. Re the mic - I've been merrily talking away on mine through bluetooth (with nokia phone) - Waywall must've dramatically improved the internal mic on the W6050 since previous complaints, because I've had absolutely no complaints from anyone I've been talking to (in fact, I think it's clearer than my phone itself!)

Re Sat Nav, as previously mentioned, BIG thanks go out to Bazzle who helped me with the initial setup of iGo8.3. It looks very sharp and (after a little fiddling) I've got alt skins working too. I have however reverted to the standard skin as there is a slight problem with other skins whereby the touch screen buttons at the bottom of the screen aren't fully visible or touchable. This issue doesn't exist in the standard skin so that's more than enough for me (having never had GPS anyway). Also, I'm not sure but it feels like the default skin is a little more responsive both to touchscreen input, and in the 3d nav mode.

Sound quality of audio is 110% better than stock. I'm going to do a 'stage 2' install shortly to properly utilise my Focal under-seat sub with the unit. Shoulda done it when first installed but I was getting impatient.

The new 6050 is also FULLY INTEGRATED with the VW MFD. E.g., MFD tells me what source I'm listening to, in ipod it tells me track number (not track name), in radio it tells me station. I have full steering wheel button functionality (volume, next/last track, call answer).

The only problems I have with the unit are rather minor:
1. would be nice if the interface went deeper into ipod menu when using ipod. E.g., I want to select - artist, then a particular album of that artist. Doesn't appear I can do that.
2. scrolling through tracks using the touch screen is buggy. Very rarely responds to touch on the on-screen arrows. I just use the right side knob instead. No biggie.
3. Bluetooth phonebook is buggy. Seems to crash when trying to access my phone's phonebook, call history etc. If I'm calling out, I'd need to pick up the phone and select contact on the phone itself (which will be illegal to do here in Vic, Australia on and from tomorrow). This is really the only fault which I'm not that happy about.

But, I paid just under $500AUD landed, and about $50 for install so I'm very very happy with the quality of the unit versus $ paid.
