Yes the wd6150 does work with the key in position 0. Once the key is pulled out and the door open, the unit switches off.
If the door is not opened the unit will remain on.
Theres a couple issues that are really bugging me with this unit.
1. There is a major ground loop issue with the unit. A constant buzzing noise comes from the speakers when my lights are switched on, and increases in pitch as the engine revs. I have tried unplugging the antennas, and still there is noise. My conclusion that its coming from the deck itself.
2. I have a MFD 1. and the up/down arrow keys do not work to change track. Only the volume up/down and mute, telephone key works.
3. Due to the ground loop in the unit, the external mic is also affected and is very poor sound quality because of all the noise. This almost renders the bluetooth phone useless.
4. Cannot watch video while the handbrake is down. The video display says "Warning do not watch to Master" This is by far the MOST ANNOYING thing with this unit. Since the decks ebrake is going through a canbus decoder, there is no brake wire you can ground to bypass the ebrake lock. The point of having a 170Km/h DTV tuner support is so you can have the tv whilst driving right? This makes almost makes the unit useless for me. My passengers cant watch TV or watch DVD when im driving.
5. TV reception. I baught a 90DB active antenna for this unit, and still the DTV reception is piss pooor. I live in sydney, australia and cant even pick up channel 7,9 or 10 unless im in the CBD and stationary.
6. The GPS. On the 6050 there is a button which looks like 2 arrows in a circle next to the eject button. This button enables audio priority between your GPS app and radio, dvd, ipod etc... the wd6150 does not have this button. Even though it is stated in the specs that there is "Dual Audio - can watch GPS while listen to radio" This is still very buggy. When I have the radio on, then switch to GPS, the radio will work while the GPS is running.... for a few minutes, then it switches off and permanently prioritizes the GPS audio over the radio. Therefore, watching the GPS while having the radio on is not possible.
if any of the above matter to you then, i would re-consider buying this unit. Or if you know how to fix these issues yourself then by all means help me out while your at it!
Ive sent 4 emails to Fish at waywell about the ebrake lock, and havent recieved any replies at all. I really dont think they care.
Anyway you get what you pay for, the GUI on the interface is by far the best i have seen for a china unit. however just a few issues can ruin the experience of this unit.
Hi all
Can someone please confirm or deny that this unit can operate with the car key in the '0' position? I have a WD6050 unit and it will operate only when the car key is in position 1 or 3 and it bugs me alot..
Let me explain a bit more.... there are 3 positions on the VW car key switch.
'0'position no dash lights
'1' position dash lights on ie. car battery, seatbelt, EPC. lights are illuminated on the dash. This is also the position the key springs back to once the car engine is started. "
"3" position the ignition of the engine. This is a momentary position.
The reason I ask this question is if you want to operate the unit without the engine running. Leaving the key in position '1' will draw a lot of power from the battery. Because other accessories are powered too... like the fan and aircon, glowplugs in desiel engines.
the way the original unit worked was that it did not turn on when the key was in position 0 but after turning the key to position 1 or 3 and turning the unit on. after that when you turned the key back to position 0(shuting the engine) the original unit would stay on! where my current wd6050 turns off!
and the original unit would automaticaly turn off only when you pull out the car key from the car key hole
can anyone check if the wd6150 or the new 6506 will turn on and off like the original unit and not like the wd6050 does?
this is something that realy bugs me and I mayte consider buying this unit if it will turn on and off the same way the original does
Thanks and sorry for the long story..
