Even the pick up was aviable there brand new until recently as well.
You can still get mk2 bodied cars in china, and mk4 body cars with mk5 sort of noses on them in china as well. They have the machines to stamp out the bodies you can make a lot more money using pieces you designed 30+ years ago and just have to fix some dies every once in a while then making new stuff. The new mk1s had airbags, modern radios and even blue lit dashes.. |

Not knowing this proves you aren't a VW enthusiast.

Nice. But it appears they only make the 5 door. Too bad. I'm more of a cabrio kind of guy when it comes to the MK1

MK1s are over 30 years old
and most places consider it a classic at 20-25 years. I don't even legally need to possess a title to register my 82 rabbit in GA since is a classic. In most states at 25 years you can get antique plates. |

here in Texas, a car is a classic past 20 years of age... I'm in the print/ web advertising business: We consider an antique or classic car once that is over 20 years old and of some monetary value... which brings up an interesting point: the "new" MK1 in South Africa gives new meaning to the term "instant classic"
