He said it cost him 40 bucks a set

Is a set both the city light pair and the license light pair shown in the first post? for both pairs that is an excellent price.

If you decide to unload any - I am ready to PayPal funds, just let me know

Thanks for the pics :w00t:

I see your Golf has halogen headlights.
The city light in yours is a bit different than the city light provided in HID fixtures.
----
My friend in Sweden just emailed me that the MaxLux bulbs I ordered arrived in Linköping today.
I still won't get them until next week, and won't get back home to my GTI until the week after that.
Sometime around the end of June I will do a photo session
with the HID fixture's city lights using various bulbs for comparison

I agree. I've used leds on one side of the license plate lights. No resistor or anything need it works but after a month of two it starts to flicker. I go and check it, it happens so that the housing is starting to melt like above so i changed it back to stock.

Are you referring to the Brex / Maxlux LED or a different LED?

BTW If you put an LED in only one of the two number plate lighting fixtures,
any LED will work without a resistor.
The two fixtures share one circuit - one lamp fail sensor.
One working stock bulb in either fixture is all that is needed to satisfy the sensor,
so the LEDs low draw does not matter.
Replace them both and its a different story.

No i was refering to exactly what you said. I put in ONE led and it worked. After a month, i started notice flicker, so i checked it out. It turns out that Im assuming the heat from the led built up melted some of the housing. Have the Brex led's ever had any of these issues so far?

The city lights can accept any proper sized LED without problems as long as you leave regular incandescent bulbs in the front side marker lights. The city light and side marker light share one sensor for each corner. Only one good bulb is needed to satisfy each sensor and the side marker can provide that while the LED is in use in the city lights. If you wanted to put LEDs in both the city lights and the front side marker, then you would need a resistor on each corner to keep their sensor satisfied.

so just to clarify, if I want to replace my City Lights with LEDs, I don't need resistors or anything as long as I still have my sidemarkers running? So I can buy the LEDs off superbrightleds.com or something? What type of bulb is it? :yikes:

As for the license ones, I'll need resistors to not get a bulb indicator on the dash?

Thanks for the help!

Yes, yes, W5W wedge bulb.

W5W original equipment city light bulb

Blesk bulb in city light

Yes. But of course, this thread is about Brex bulbs which have the needed resistor built in.
And the very similar Blesk (Maxlux) bulbs will work too.

Blesk in license lights

The Blesk bulbs are available in the US at significantly reduced cost (via eBay).
