Just as the title says, do we have a lightweight wheels list for the MKV compiled? I'm sure that there are at least a few of you out there who may want to upgrade your MKV's shoes but do it in a way that will help overall performance...

I've been roaming around TireRack all morning and all that I have come up with that are lightweight and pretty hot are the 18" O.Z. Ultraleggera in black coming in at a nice and light 19lbs.

Post up your choice for lightweight wheels for the MKV and maybe even a pic if you can get one.

Hope that helps dude, tried to use as many pics with wheels on the GTI as possible. You will find the wheels at the top of the list are forged then flow-cast at the bottom, although some are similar in weight the forged wheels are alot stronger than the flow-cast. I have based everything on 18inch becuase i think its the best allrounf sixe for look and performance balance, but some of the wheels ( VOLK PROGRESSIV ME / VOLK RE30 / NEUSPEED RS5 - RS6 - RS10 / OZ ULTRALEGGERA / BBS RGR ) are available in 19 inch with slight weight increase. Most of them are also available in 17 inch also. To highlight the strength of Forged verses cast, a mate has ultraleggera's and allready has buckle unfortunately from a pothole and I have seen a CE28 after drifting into and hitting the kerb at 100km/h + and only a slice of the forged alloy had been taken out but no buckle. The Forged are really not that much extra and my choice, but each is to their own!

I had the CE28N on my car (1st pic) and they were brilliant, the handling was sharper and more responsive and the acceleration was more responsive and quicker, due to the extreme light weight at only 14.7lbs which matches DYMAGS etc... so Lightweight wheels definately worth the money!

Good luck:thumbsup:

What do you consider "light weight"? I am sure if varies by size and width.

My VW goals (in platinum, looks good on a UG !) were only 20.4 lbs (i weighed them before mounting tires and balancing), which I thought was pretty darn good for a factory wheel. Since I dont track the car, i was just looking not to mount a ton of extra rotating mass.

I'm bumping an ancient thread, because of Tiny's awesome post alone.

Are those really 18" Neuspeeds? They look much larger.

looks like we have options.... are the lightweight wheels much less durable than OEM wheels? how will they fare against a pothole?
