Hello, need help after fitting oem r32 xenon headlights and programming via vag com i'm getting bulb failure showing for both front dipped headlights when first turning ignition on. After turning lights on the failure light goes out. All lights work and i'm getting no strobing effects. Any ideas as this has got me!!

Thanks
Gav

although you've had them coded they may not be properly alligned so they could be showing a fault? Has you will know the R32 xenons are automatically adjusted up and down by the sensors on the front and back suspension, so as they are not fitted in your case the coding may be different? Have the coding checked again and the light adjuster through vagcom could be something simple.

Hi Darren, thanks for the reply.
Ive checked the coding again and even changed it to xenon with shutters (although ive not wired the bi xenon wires to the cecm (kufatec adapter). Nothing seems to make a difference. ive checked through xenon 55 using vag com and the range control is not activated so the car shouldn't be looking for the leveling system. I have aimed the lights at a vauxhall dealer where i used to work as a mechanic and they are spot on. I'm running out of ideas now and cant understand why this bulb failure would come on. I presume all you other guy's out there have not had this problem when retrofitting these xenon's.
Thanks again Darren for the ideas..please keep them coming!!

Maybe silly question but you purchased HID's and now get a error code.
Could the error code be anything to do with the washers i presume you didnt fit that come standard with these .:R32 HIDS?

I assume you didnt fit because the work involved would be mental.

Do they auto focus ok?

Hello all

No at present i still get the bulb failure appearing untill i turn on the lights, or the sensor turns them on then it goes out. To be honest i havn't had time to look into it fully. No the washers dont have any bearing on the the bulb failure problem as they only operate when the headlights are on and the wiper stalk is operated, they are not directly linked to the bulb failure system/circuit.
No they do not self level...it would be to expensive to fit the system in my opinion..yes it can be done and there is a thread on here to show how, but there's lots of components to buy and fit...(rear sensor..front sensor..mounting brackets...wiring..etc) and you dont need it for the mot, or washers for that matter so dont see the point. If you want to be extra careful when fitting them just drop the beam setting slighty so they wont blind anyone..!!

i get this every now and then. i just bought a HID kit. sometimes only one light comes on and i get the warning, but i just flick the lights off and on and it's fine.
i think it's alot to do with the wattage the lights use as xenon's use alot less power than xenon's. sometimes if the car realises not enough energy is being used, then the light must be blown and automatically switches off power to said bulb. (you will find this when fitting led sidelights) i think there is a way of turning this off on vagcom, its a stab in the dark but give it a shot.

GV4 VW - I have the exact same problem with my OEM xenon retrofit. The bulb error appears when ignition/engine is on, lights off. However, when manually turning the lights on, the bulb error disappears 99% of the time. However, sometimes, one of my xenon's fire up but the other doesn't, again causing a bulb error. This tends to happen when the light switch is on 'Auto' and the car enters a tunnel, turning the auto light function on, but only for one bulb! The bulb error is then eradicated by simply turning them off and on again, albeit very annoying.

My car is a 1.9TDI SE, I know a guy who has the same model of car, with xenons and he has a similar problem with the bulb error when lights are off, although he doesn't appear to have the problem I have with only one coming on when going through a tunnel with lights on 'Auto'.

I believe upgrading to the latest Canbus module/gateway may potentially solve the problem, although I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong...

Last weekend i fitted r32 oem xenons to my 57 reg golf 1.4 S and im not having any problems.

The xenons were from a late 2008 R32.

Might want to compare the date your lights were made and your car and debate if you need a new canbus and/or CECM?

Also do your lights flicker/or struggle to turn on?

If so then that may indicate wrong VAG-COMming, fault in the bulb, ballast, igniter, plug converters or something inter-related.

When your "bulb out" light is on the dash, vag-scan it and see what the error actually is and post it on here.

As an aside, Im really pleased with mine :D :D
