but you drive a 9-3 aero

I'm guessing he will be getting a MKV? Anyways, I actualy like the VW keys better than the Bentley ones. They're nice, but it's the same as the VW one but a bit more rounded, with more chrome and round buttons.

Yep, I'll have my Golf soon. Yeah the standard key is fine, but if the internals are similar then it should be a fairly cheap mod for me.

It should be possible, but don't take my word for it. I've thought about the same thing, because the Bentley key is awesome. Don't get me wrong... the regular Golf key is nice, but the Bentley one just has a nice weight about it.

Okay... well... this looks possible.. my only concern is that there may be a need for some customization in the body of the key to get the (-) side of the battery grounded to the circuit board. the two keys use two different grounding systems, Also the Bentley key does not have a panic button in it. (not that I care)

the actual metal key portion is definately swappable.. the chipset is the same button layout and chip size.. now I just need a tiny tiny torx (at home) to open up the body 100% and I'll let you know if it works.. (I don't have a spare at work either so I wanna do this at home in case something goes wrong.. )

and yeah this thing is like 2x heavier than the VW key and is rubber and metal.. has a really good feel about it.

Well it worked... what a pain in the ass.. the circuit boards are different widths, lengths and shapes. The grounding issue was indeed an issue.. basically you have to trim the bentley keyfob, trim the original circuit board (hairy), reshape the bently grounding system, swap the key itself and try to load that stupid spring mecanism for the flip key.. had alot of patience and about 3 hours... in the end you get this..

and are left with all this

Was it worth the trouble? LOL If you were to take the bentley wing off, would it leave the shape of the wing indented in the key? Do you know what I mean? Cause it would be better if you replaced it with a VW logo IMO. Nonetheless, nice work.

Is that beer in the glass? I'd need a beer for sure if I was doing a 3 hour key swap.

Now that I did it, sure it would be easier..

you can take off the logo once the cover is off but

there is a 1/8" recess in the rubber, so it wouldn't really work.

Any more details, or maybe something resembling a DIY? That is bad f'ing ASS.

Well I'm not disassembling it again... LOL..

steps are as follows

1: using a 1/16" allen wrench (or similar) push the dowell out of the base of the swiveling portion of the switchblade to remove the flip key from the body.

2: seperate metal side with recess for flip key by applying pressure where noted in yellow

3: Once off pry the side featuring the Bently logo off with a flat screwdriver or butter knife

4: using firm and even pressure pull (from the button side) the remaining metal side off the key body.

5: Once off there is one small philips screw in the center of the body (previously covered by the Bentley logo) and two t5 torx screws to either side of the battery location.

6: Once screws are removed the two halves can be seperated.

7: using snips, cut approximately 1/16" off the back of the bentley buttons (they come to I point, this needs to be trimmed back to let them return to resting after being pushed)

8: At this point you need to trim some of the plastic internals of the bentley key to allign the button recievers to the buttons on the bentley key. I can only hope you get it.. you also need to trim out a portion of the circuit board itself (make sure not to actually hit any leads as this could cause a failure in the key

9: you need to bend and reposition the bentley grounding system about 45* clockwise to hit the VW grounding position on the circuit board

10: Now you have to try to close the body pieces back together. once you can get the sides to seal seperate them again and wind the spring loaded flip key mount thingie. Make sure you wind it the right way so it opens when the button is pressed.

11: reattach the metal sides (plain then indented)

12: then repin the VW key to the Bentley body

13: sit back and admire your work.
