My 1985 Cabrio that has been in the family for over 20 years caught on fire today after a plastic bag blew under it. The engine and everything under the hood is completely fried, but the car is salvagable. It's my dad's car, but I grew up in it. I hope it can be fixed. I am getting my new GTI sometime soon though.

Thanks dude. Getting my GTI this week.. Right now, if we decide to repair the car, we'll buy a MKII donor car with everything under the hood intact and just do a transplant. Labor will be a bitch, but a donor can be found for aorund 500$.

Sorry for your loss, but it now sounds like a pretty fun project. Welcome to the forum

Holy shit. I've seen bumps in my time, but never a three-year bump.

My Dad used to always take great effort to dodge those bags when we were driving on the highway and I asked "What's the big deal Dad? It's just a bag." Then he said that if they get under the engine it'll catch on fire but I thought he was over exaggerating. Guess he was right...
