Beginning to see good amounts of smoke.

Went to TT...and loaded my GIAC files again. Yes, I quit DM and went back to GIAC. I also spoke with their recommendation about the valve job. Went home and swapped out the 3bar MAP sensor to reinstall the 2.55bar oem sensor...as it would not run well accompanied by a CEL with the 3bar.

Definately want to hear your reviews on the tune swap.

There is something different, in a good way, with the GIAC tune as it feels better than the one I had before. I won't be doing too much, in the way of logs, until after the valves are done.

I was told I was being sent something updated...best to wait until all is in top shape and 'then' when results are collected from the dyno and track...I will post my reviews ;)

Car went in last week and it looks like piston seal rings in cyl's. 3 and 4 may be shot. Everything is soaked in them including the intake ports and valves. All the exhaust ports looked similarly dry...so it is getting soaked during back pressure and leaching oil into the intake side...and why I was seeing smoke during the coasting and initial takeoffs. This is the general consensus so far between my tech and the valve shop tech. More will be determined after seeing the tolerance results for the 3 and 4 cyl. valve guides, but it appears I will be doing rings in addition to the valve seals and guides.

Do you think you could have been washing those rings down with the mixture you have been using to clean your valves? Something to think about.

I think it had more to do with driving habits. I used no more solution than that used in Fleming products. I will still use the same method should the intake valve stems begin to build up again in the future. 4oz of solvent with 8oz of fuel is quite weak.

What I am going to look for this week when the pistons are removed is whether or not the seal rings are stuck with a closed gap. This is common fault for seal rings....I'm told...and would have nothing to do with the solution...and why not impact the two compression rings that sit above the seal ring? Compression for all four was still above 190psi. Rings may not even be the issue here. Hardened valve stem seals is the more likely reason.

hope its back and running soon!

whats better coming from a PCV block off plate:

going back to OEM PCV or go catch can?

I think you're looking at valve guides and seals.

My valve shop tech thinks seals for sure and perhaps a few guides, but he thinks the seal rings need checking for that "stuck" condition I mentioned before. So, if I have to check the seal rings...I might as well replace them. Because the other shop is going to charge for that.

You're asking about my recent change from my stage 1 plate back to oem pcv?

I want to try the oem pcv because of where it routes vapor to when vacuum changes...into the oil filter housing rather than always routing into the intake. That means a reduction of the vapors into the turbo intake.

As for best??? It's my preference versus everyone else. Both work.

see my understanding has been that the vapors came FROM the oil filter housing so any crankcase pressure would be vented up top to either intake manifold or compressor inlet?? I suppose it could go either way if needed tho too.
mine issue hasn't reared its ugly/retarded head since I went VTA. although, I'm still getting some leftover oil seeping from charge pipe/intercooler connections with the stupid bayonet clip and seal. but tonight I should be bypassing the stock IC for a front mount. I mounted it last night, gotta fab the charge pipes tonight and finish it. total cost will be $90!!

Right, my statement was incorrect before. The pcv does switch from turbo inlet(under boost) or directly to the intake mani(under vacuum).

After having chemically cleaned the head today...cylinders 3 and 4 were still black. Looks like I may have had bad valve stem seals and piston seal rings for those cylinders. Both techs highly object to the idea of mineral spirits causing any damage. Heat is what is suspected mostly. So, not using Mobil1 any more. Might use LiquiMoly TopTech 5w40...

Found out today I needed all, well...14 were badly out of tolerance, of the stem guides. So went ahead and did them all. Also added spring shims, 0.030" to be exact on the size. Going to make sure that the seal ring groove's - pin holes are cleaned out and find out if those seal rings in cylinders 3 and 4 were stuck or not tomorrow.
