Mine's out for delivery today! Can't wait to get home from work.
which maps are people opting for? i was told by the manufacturer that they offer Route66, TomTom and iGo.
Any chance you could write up an install guide that outlines what you need to do differently to install this compared to installing/removing the stock radio (RCD300?). I already found a guide on one of these VW forums that has instructions for removing and installing the stock radio.
I've never removed or installed any aftermarket parts in my VW yet so I'm just wondering how complicated it can get.
BTW, would installing this void factory warranty?
More news as it comes to hand...
Only if it can be proved that it damaged something (melted the wiring, or caused electrical damage for example) If your exhaust falls of or your engine carks it it's not related and is covered.
My unit just arrived, contents of the box... (sorry about the focus)
I won't get a chance to install it until later today, but a few things I have noticed so far:
* It does come with a remote & GPS antenna
* The maps supplied (I didn't specify) are tom tom on a 1GB SD card (save yourself US$10 and get them from an alternative source  ).
* The manual is better quality compared to the AVC 9000 - but no installation instructions (it's pretty much plug & play installation anyway).
* The wiring loom already has the handbrake wire earthed for your viewing pleasure!
* There are accessory & illumination connections on the loom, won't know until installing whether the acc needs to be connected or whether it will use the can bus. Glad to see the illumination lead, it would shit me having to manually dim the display at night. (Both are no problem for me to connect as I discovered where both were when helping zz2 with his boost gauge install).
* A group buy might still work - the invoice rather substantially understated the actual cost.
