TSI Oil Change is Cakewalk!

I did the first oil change on my TSI today with 1150 miles on the odometer. What breeze.

- The stock ride height is high enough to get an oil drain pan under the car and loosen the drain bolt without jacking up the car.

- I loosened the noise pipe from one bracket to allow me to get a filter wrench on the filter. A proper filter tool will avoid loosening the bracket. I'll be better prepared next time.

- The old filter did not drip a single drop of oil, despite being inverted.

- On with a new factory filter (lubed the seal of course), secure noise pipe, new drain plug, 30 N-M of torque on the plug, 5 quarts of German Castrol = 75% to the max fill mark on the dipstick. Done.

I'll do ya one better.. I got an oil extractor pump from Griots garage.. I jammed the tube down the dipstick tube and sucked the oil out. It took quite a while since its a tiny tube, but it sucked out a bit over 4 liters (4.25-4.5-ish quarts).

I went to autozone while that was sucking the oil out, and got an oil filter adapter for a ratchet (says oil filter "B" cap wrench) and it fit like a glove. No need to move the noisepipe since this goes straight on from the top. I had goofed around with the swively type of strap wrench but I didn't have any room.

I filled mine up with Motul x-cess 8100 5w40 and it seems to run alot smoother now

My paperwork from the dealer said "sedan". I thought it was humorous, so I went with it.

Nice! You never even had to lay down!

I need to get a new cap-style filter wrench-a-ma-jig. I have one, but it's too small for the VW filter. I used the strap style today, that's why the noise pipe had to get loosened. The factory had that friggin' filter tight!

was looking at a tsi engine the other day. couldn't help but wonder how on earth you remove your oil filter without getting oil on the belt that's just inches away?

its got a check valve or something inside the filter.. I unscrewed mine and lifted straight up, and i didnt get any drippage. I also took it after it was removed from the car and turned it so the hole was facing down and shook it, and nothing came out then either

Yeap, I did my first oil change yesterday and it was a pieces of cake! I bought the oil filter "B" cap wrench at Auto Zone (for $4.99) and it fits like like a glove. I didn't have to remove anything else beside the drain plug and there was not even a drop of oil from removing the filter:happyanim:

Shit! I paid $20 at my local dealership. I looked online and could only find it for $18.50 + shipping. They are seriously nice filters though. Probably the nicest I've ever seen.
