Hello everybody. My first new VW GTI Here and it is badass.:happyanim: I have a few questions about it. I bought it brand new with 149 mi. on it. My engine does not have a cover over it. Is the 09 supposed to? There is what seems to be an hose nipple on the rights side of the intake manifold that is not used, is this normal? Trunk release inside car and on key fob does nothing. Whats up?:help:
every 2009 I have ever seen has a TSI cover on it.
yes the TSI has an unused sealed nipple on the intake.
your trunk is broke then. make sure you are holding your trunk remote button for 2-3 seconds. if it doesnt work, its broke.

My girlfriend had a jetta 1.8t, and it had a trunk release button inside car and it would actually pop trunk up a few inches. Her key fob did the same thing after a few seconds of holding button down. Well i guess car is going back to dealer to get all this sh&^ fixed. Is the tsi cover about the same size as the fsi cover I see around?

...Trunk release inside car and on key fob does nothing. Whats up?:help:
It does not do much.
The hatch will not pop.
If your car is fully locked, of course the locked hatch release will not open the hatch.
If you press and hold the center remote button for 2-3 seconds (or pull the interior unlock button),
then the hatch release will unlock,
allowing you to manually release and open the trunk while retaining locked doors.
Stock - that is all that button and the one inside the car will do - nothing else.
There is a VAG-COM tweak that will open the lock,
adding helper springs on the strut rods will cause the hatch to pop.
There are posts in the archive on the topic ... Full Hatch Pop DIY.. (http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55731)

jesus christ don't been such a pussy. there's nothing wrong with your car. my trunk release button doesn't pop the trunk. it unlocks it, but then i have to open it manually.

Maybe you should learn how the trunk actually works before complaining that it's broken...

Wow, way to jump on a new owner.
The trunk release is a misnomer. In every other car (including a Jetta Sedan) the trunk release physically pops the trunk or makes an audible "click" to unlock it. So, it's funny that the GTI's hatch release makes no noise.
The trunk/hatch release in the GTI is basically a software unlock that enables the electric release on the hatch to be used. It doesn't operate the actuator for the release. It just tells the car that it's okay to allow it to be opened from the outside.
This is great because if you accidentally hit the hatch release instead of the fuel filler door relase at the gas station, the trunk doesn't fly open, and you won't look like a tool who doesn't know how to use the car.
The hatch release button on the key fob will work only if you hold it down for 2 seconds. The car's tail lamps should flash twice to let you know the hatch is ready to be opened.
One thing I hate, which can probably be fixed with vagcom..
car is locked, i open my trunk to pack my groceries.. close hatch. all doors lock again.
i think this even happens when doors were unlocked first, i open hatch, close. then all doors lock. if you drop your key in trunk before closing, you are screwed. i dont need it to auto-lock. i can remember to lock my own car.
fixable?

wow, I feel burned. J/K. Im just so used to the 2002 jetta and the truck popping up a few inches when you hit the release that it just threw me off when the gti did nothing, thats all. Thanks for all your help. This car is to expensive to not worry if something works or not.

Yes. Instead of using the hatch release button when loading groceries, unlock all doors. The hatch should also be available, and when you close it, the doors won't auto-lock.

After this past weekend its even worse when your drunk and forgot you put the keys on the floor of the trunk then close the door and never find your keys until you realize the next morning that they are in your trunk. $50 for pop a lock to come open the dam car, and the guy couldn't even do it. After 20 mins of trying I was like gimme the dam tools.... opened it up 5 mins later. I need to change this setting

I've done this twice already. It's a good thing I have the valet key fob lying around.

Just one question, near the top left engine cover mounting point there are wires wrapped with a plastic tube and connects to the left side of the engine. Is there suppose to be wires exposed at one edge? Thanks.
Thanks Plac since I'm borrowing his picture.
