Hello everyone! I am new to the forums and I am also considering buying my first car and I hope to make it a VW. I am interested in a 2009 VW City Golf base model (Canadian exclusive I believe). Before I make the purchase I was just looking to get some additional information about the car. I have read a few reviews on the car and it seems great for what I need.

Just a little about myself. I am 20 years old and a university student. I work as a commisioned computer salesman. I really need my own car to travel to and from school and work and also just to have the independence of owning my own car.

I was wondering if the 15" stock steel rims would be upgradeable to a 17" aftermarket rim with low profile tires. I am also wondering the speaker sizes inside the car. The brochure says it has an 8 speaker system and I am wondering if they are 6.5's + tweets in the front/rear of the car or something else.

If anyone owns this car, it would also be great to get some feedback on how well it drives and if they like it or regret buying it.

Thanks, JP

The Golf City is actually an updated MkIV Golf. A +2 up-size on the tire and wheel package is no problem. I'm not sure if they've updated the interior that much, but the MkIV can accommodate 5.25 and 6.5 speakers. I'm very happy with my MkIV and have no problem recommending the platform.

How's the guy supposed to know what the car is, if he's never dealt with one? Acting like an ass toward the inexperienced is hardly going to make people want to join the Volkswagen family. Remember, for every person who converts to the cause, it's one more customer to convince VW corporate that North America is a legitimate market deserving a full line-up of cars. Making newcomers feel unwelcome only shoots us all in the foot...

From your end it may have seemed like "the nicest way possible", but it sure doesn't read that way. This post only adds to the perception that you're an ass...

The Rabbit would be preferable, if it's within the OP's finances.
