Seriously, I can't believe how much HP these cars are getting theses days. Makes the R32 seem kind of dumb to get.

I've emailed them but haven't heard back yet. I hope its not too hard to get their products here or have them installed. Milltek is a reputable VW tuner right??

From what I've heard they are.

What kind of 0-60 and quarter mile #'s do you guys think that car can get?

I read somewhere that the Milltek exhaust, MTM chip car should do 0-60 in high 5's low 6's.

a guy here in vegas has his car chipped by GIAC, stock whp he said was around 190 which im guessing is a little 2 high, but after the chip he was at i think 215whp on chip alone, so with turbo back might ad another 30whp (guesstimate)

Updated the first post above with the dyno chart. Awesome #'s!

so at 268 bhp ,aka flywheel hp. is the "to the wheels"only 199 ?does that mean thats a 69hp loss through the drive train?that would seem kind of high for a fwd.it says wheel power is 199 and tq is 146.4 that couldnt be the loss all the way from 268hp/200tq.that would put the power into the range of a honda--rsxs

from what im reading...im seeing these cars dyno 190-200 hp stock at the wheels...
seems vw is bein very conservative with their numbers just like dodge was with the srt-4 to drop insurance costs among various other things

You guys are forgetting a CAI. Carbonio is the best so far and the best gains. When combined with chip and turbo back you get even more gains.

though a cai will help car breathe better, it most likely wont make any difference in the gti's, if you check under the hood it already has and awsome intake system.
On the upside- a FULL Turboback(milltek's cost around 1,400)will give you the most gains with a chip upgrade. Most vw tuner companies are saying an exhaust upgrade is a must for most possible gains with the chip.
after this i can see 0-60 times in 5.5 easily.to be honest im not even looking for the 0-60 times.
best chips to go with right now would have to be APR or REVO.
here is a diagram from milltek showing what is the turbo-back and what is the cat-back. obviously you wont be getting optimal performance if you settle for just the cat. Its all what your wallet can handle.

0-60 may not be everything but gdamn 0-60 in lower-mid 5's is amazing and just shows you how much gains can come from these mods! Man I love the moddability of turbo cars.

what would the 1/4 mile times be? Increase in trap speed, that is a tru figure of HP!

MTM is also a good choice for the GTI. But it is more expensive than the milltek's.

I just messaged Pete @ Stratmosphere and he confirmed that the Downpipe with Catalytic converter is $799US and the straight pipe section with muffler section is an additional $599US. So all together a turbo-back complete exhaust system is approximately $1400US.

Would it be a good/bad idea to put this on a daily driver? and can the DSG transmission take the increase in power?:burnrubber:

Also, perhaps they didn't want to make the mistake Mazda made (twice!) with the Miata when MX5 owners started dynoing their cars and finding lower number than expected. Not good.
I was figuring on approximately 170 at the wheels based on 200hp minus 15% single-axle powertrain loss. So, I'm quite pleased if it's true about an "underestimation" on the numbers by VW. However, this means the gains quoted by chip manufacturers aren't as impressive as once thought.

i would like to hear an answer to this
I posted the same question in this thread http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=370
and this is what I got
DSG will take the power. Remember, it's been available on Audis for awhile now (in near-identical format as well with the A3 2.0T and the 3.2)
AND
I was very skeptical of the DSG as I am a manual fan...then I drove one.
I took a ride in a DSG equipped GLI back in November of last year...I am in love.
it is not humanly possible to shift that quick...and the performance numbers don't lie...DSG is the quickest way to get from A to B. I am sold. My 5 door will be DSG equipped.
the only nits I have to pick are these. I have heard that the DSG's are not designed to handle more than 300 ft-lbs of torque before they intervien and pull back throttle...however they were used in VW's trio of Turbocharged SEMA cars (all 500+ hp) . HPA also sells a single turbo kit for the DSG equipped Audi TT 3.2's that are far north of that TQ number....so that is still up for debate.
And the US software doesn't hold on to the revs as long as the European...something that I am sure tuners will address in short order.
so unless we plan on having more power than the SEMA cars we're ok. I too am pretty much sold on a 5 door with DSG

i was told by a sales person in greenwood indiana that you could get a chip and exhuast for the GTI MKV and it would add about 50 HP to the car does that sound right to you guys.
First time turbo owner :iono:
he also told me that you could order it through a VW dealer and it would be covered under your warrenty

That's a new one.
If it's true it could also be good one because that would mean the "revised" engine spec could be released soon. 170kw+ (230bhp+) would make it even more potent in stock form. But then again, it might limit the improvements chips give. We're in for interesting times then I think.

Apparently "Stratmosphere" isn't just a clever name, it also refers to the price. That's not a cheap exhaust by any means.
