Adjusting a NewSouth Boost gauge needle *video*

My needle was just coming off the white block on the gauge too low. I tried the adjustment and its pretty much dead on now:

So here is how I did it:

Awesome, will definitely need this when I get mine!

How do you like the placement in the vent? is it practical to look at while driving?

For me it is. I have had a lot of pods and gauges.

I have had:

- NewSouth column pod on my 2004 jetta
- AWE vent pod on my 2006 GTI
- OSIR vent pod on my 2008 GTI
- AWE vent pod on my 2009 GTI
- and now I have an OSIR vent pod coming for my 2009 GTI

I dont like the column pod because of everything it blocks, and the slightly more difficult install. The OSIR is the easiest install of above, since it does not use any vent guts. You dont use any stock parts of the vent with the OSIR pod. The AWE looks slightly more stock and retains the vent functionality sort of, yet the install is harder than the OSIR install. Popping off the vent front cover plate to install the AWE kit is the pain part, and you wear out the tabs easily. This only occurs if you take your gauge in and out a couple times like I have. If you just do it once and never take it out again, its probably ok.

Since I have an Osir kit coming, I am looking for a new vent assy to order. I want to have it perfect and just store it for later, since my current vent has the hole drilled for the AWE install, as well as a worn out front plate.

PS, I will probably have an AWE full kit and a NewSouth gauge to sell in a week or two.

This should be added to the DIY if hasn't been already. This seems to be a somewhat common problem.

I just got my newsouth gauge and column pod in the mail today from North American Motorsports, and when I opened the gauge box I was pissed when I saw it was centered at a little passed the 2 psi mark...:mad0259:

Thankfully I found this and was able to get it perfectly centered at 0...:happyanim:

Saves me another week or two of mailing back and forth with new south to try and get a new gauge...Although, I am a bit worried since the adjustment I made was much larger than what OP's was...Should I be worried that I threw off some sort of calibration when I tampered with that spring?:iono:

Anyways, I will report in with my results, hopefully tomorrow, after the install!

I would only be concerned if you really pushed on it hard. I doubt small changes like this will affect the calibration of the gauge.

There was some other method for a larger adjustment which i never dealt with. Something about loosening the back nut on the gauge or something. You'll know if its right when you see your boost numbers anyway.

Got it installed today!

I'm stock except for a neuspeed intake, and I was spiking around 15 and holding around 10-11 and doing 20mg at idle...I think thats should be about right!:happyanim:

Now I just have to remember to keep my eyes on the road and not the boost gauge...
