View Full Version : So... my lock cylinder has been destroyed.

I wake up for work, have my coffee, whistle a little tune, and head out to my car.

Someone tried to break into it. The lock cylinder looks like someone shot it with a gun. It's shattered completely. Luckily they didn't get in, nor did they scratch or damage any other parts of the door. Car is 500 miles old and it already has the spare on, a replaced e-brake, and now the lock is busted out from some scumbag that doesn't know how to steal cars successfully.

What are my options now? Do I go through insurance or just pay out of pocket? Does anyone know how much it usually costs to get a lock cylinder replaced? Is it possible to get a blank lock cylinder? I never use the door key anyway. I'd rather just get a blank so they can't F it up again.

Help :(

Don't know what it will run on the GTI, being a new car, but when i had my lock cylinder replaced on my 94 golf it was 90 bucks to get fixed.

I think they have to open the door for the alarm to go off. They never got it opened, they just obliterated the cylinder. I can still lock and unlock the door with the remote.

how come the alarm didn't go off?

we dont have an alarm, the "alarm" only goess off when the car is actually opened when not unlocked w/ key fob.

i had this happen to my moms beetle, she walks in to the store, comes bac, lock cylinder fucked to shit. they didnt get in though, laser cut key ftw.

I would call the dealer and see how much a new lock cylinder would be, i got my 94 fixed at a dealer and thought it would cost more.

deducatble is more than a lock cylinder, its an easy fix if you are good with ur hands.

go get the part from the dealer and go at it. or get the part and have it done @ a body shop, should be no more than 300 to fix.

part cost is 97.00+tax. doesnt have to be coded because its mechanical not electric.

*edit* part will take 1-2 weeks because its built to the car.
p.s. part number is 107-837-167-gf

i dont think its very hard, people jack mb's and bmw's left and right so gti shouldnt be much diff. luckily the thief was an idiot or didnt know what he was doing.

i'll take a pic of my lock later and post it up. my "Delock" kit came in today. I got the parts from www.worldimpex.com for about $7 + shipping. Just waiting on the UG spray can from paintscratch.com now.

My only issue with the delock is that I have no f'ing clue how I am going to get into the car if my car battery dies. Any ideas that don't involve bricks? :P

I would say that you should be very carefull not to let your battery in your car or your remote go bad.. don't see any other way in to the car.

I carry an extra remote battery in my wallet. i am, however, worried about the car battery. the beep in this car when you leave the lights on is very subtle. sometimes when it's raining out in daylight and i have the lights on, i forget to turn them off. this is such a headache. i wish all scumbags would die. i can't afford to keep putting new lock cylinders in. :|
