Being a german car and having that world famous track there I would assume the R32 had some testing done at the ring. Does anyone have any info on what time it ran or videos or articles about this? Thanks!!

Yea sorry at work internet is blocked and my blackberry is slow as hell. I just have it on this site usually and seem to have good luck on here with connection and signal speed. I try not to venture out of this things comfort zone till I'm home lol

On a side note, I noticed the .:R did a good job at the Top Gear track too. Even out running a Z in lap times.

I ran 10 laps around the 'ring last weekend in my R. I don't have any handling mods; just intake, ECU flash and flapper mod. I've got stock Dunlop SP Sport MAXX summer tires as well.

I didn't actually time my laps because I was more focused on not driving into a wall ;). It really wouldn't suprise me if 8:49 was the time to beat. The car is a bit heavy and underpowered to be a real Nordschleife monster. People don't realize how much the elevation changes on that track. Lots of hills to climb up and quick changes in direction make the car push in corners and lose speed.

I will say that driving the car around the track is an absolute blast but it is definitely tuned for 'safer' driving. It needs a few mods to make it faster, but it's still extremely enjoyable to drive in stock form.

Here's a list of the mods I'm planning before taking it to the 'ring again in a few weeks:

1. Stiffer springs/suspension to reduce body roll
2. Rear sway bar to enhance turn-in
3. MUCH stickier tires for better turn-in
4. Haldex upgrade would also be nice

Other than that, the car is awesome and the brakes perform very, very well. I only want some ceramic pads to reduce brake dust (and some drilled rotors because they look cool ;) ).

I'm sure you could cut a lot of time by making 3 out of 4 of those changes listed above.

What's the charge/cost/fee to go around?

-Jeremy- please keep us posted to how you do with those mods. Here in the states we can't just drive to arguably the worlds best track and enjoy a jaunty 10 laps. I'm jealous.

Nice one.

What's the charge/cost/fee to go around?

It's 22 Euros per lap (about $29). You get a small discount if you buy laps in bulk. My co-worker is getting a yearly pass (unlimited laps) for 995 Euros and I'm also seriously considering doing the same. The only major expense after that is tires. My tires were shredded after 10 laps.

We're heading back up there on May 9th (if my wife allows).

never mind, on every other track when put up against the mkiv the mkv does better. Actually if you look at the other ones the R does pretty well

MPG is the US way of calculating in germany it is > liter per 100 kilometer (not easy to translate one value into another as every measurment is different)

No special taxes. Some contires ghad or still have a special car tax etc. Car in Sweden and Denmark are extremely expensive. Well even in Germany with the 16(?)% Value Added Tax you can spend an arm and a leg on an R32 ....

Pretty easy actually. If we call metric economy E (l/100 km) and US economy U (m/USg):

E = 235/U
U = 235/E

So what is the easy formula for "11.2 gallons to fill up for 240 miles" and come up with the liter per 100km (without calculator) :)

So what is the easy formula for "11.2 gallons to fill up for 240 miles" and come up with the liter per 100km (without calculator) :)I do this kind of math in my head after gas stops just for something to think about. We buy gas in litres and distance is in km but being an old guy, I relate best to miles/imperial gallon, so that's what I usually calculate.

As to your problem: It's 235/mpg so 235 * (11.2/240), the 235 and 240 nearly cancel each other out so rough guess, 11 l/100 km. That's probably the way I'd do it - divide the miles into 235, and multiply the gallons by the result. How precise the answer is depends on how bored I am as I'm driving away.

Well if the R in the dry ran an 8:49 how did it run a wet lap at 1:30? It's just a wet handling test. A short course.

I'm a little confused why the Mk IV was so much faster on that particular course. Was it stock vs stock? Different drivers? Not enough information.

Luckily, as U.S. contractors associated with the military, we pay near-U.S. prices for gas. I think it's around $2.40 for 93 octane right now. Sometimes, though, I do have to fill up on the German economy and it'll cost about $90 to fill up an empty tank. Ouch!

About the lap times, don't forget that the Sport Auto tests are timed around the full 20.8km track. The normal person is only able to time himself from what they call the first Bridge to the last Gantry which cuts out the long straight at the end of the course and around 50 seconds worth of time. So realistically, when comparing to the average Joe Driver, the R32 can lap in under 8 minutes. But when comparing to the Nissan GTR, you realize it's much slower than that ;)

I get passed by Porsche GT2's like I'm standing still. They're fucking fast.

New Stig is faster than the Old Stig (Ben Collins) with all the cars around that track by a wide margin. I'm sure if you had the New Stig do a lap with the MkIV, it would be much closer, if not faster.

Perry McCarthy was the black (old) Stig.

Yeah I know but I'm pretty sure that it was Ben Collins that drove that R. I might be wrong but the black stig left before that R was tested. Ben Collins was outed as the Sitg by one of the magazines.

Tracks vary dramatically, and certain tracks favor certain cars/set-ups.

For example (as Jeremy can tell you:moon: ....j/k I am just jealous of your "Ring" experience:bow:), the Nurburgring has many elevation changes and plenty of straight distance. This aspect of the track really favors power/weight as a performance variable.

The new R is about ~250lbs heavier and not more powerful to make up for that (of course ~50 lbs of that difference can be made up by removing the spare which the MKIV did not have).

Now, a shorter/tighter track with less elevation (going up hills fast takes a lot of power....just run on a treadmill and crank up the incline to demonstrate this!) would tend to favor a better handling car that can maintain momentum.....like the MKV R32 vs MKIV R32 (OEM VS OEM obviously).

May 10th, with good weather, I'll be able to compare my lap times at a fairly short/tight track to my old MKIV lap times there....should be interesting:thumbsup:

Yep your correct on Ben Collins driving the MkV.
I heard that since Ben Collins has been "outed" that Top Gear is bringing back the 'Black' Stig. But who knows who the new driver(s) will be. The upcoming season should be interesting.

Were you driving the Black 3 door with phone prep and no centre armrest or the Deep Blue Pearl one with Charleston wheels? These were the only two MKV's I saw apart from a heavily modified Matt Black one.

I was there Sunday 12th and Monday 13th in my UK Registered 08MY Deep Blue Pearl R32 3 door; it had Valeo LED tail lamps and R-line badges on the wings if that rings any bells?

I was running REVO, Haldex Performance ECU and a new set of new Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics that weekend but sadly had 2 passengers and luggage so didn't get the best out of the car in the end :( I also struggled with the tyre pressures all weekend due to the extra wieight.

I told my friends not to time me as I didn't want to end up in a wall either but was later told every lap was under 10 minutes...

EDIT: Just noticed from the picture above you have a US Spec R32. Never saw that one there, thats cool

Just add R-compound tires, GOOD coilovers, track capable brake pads/fluid, and some basic weight reduction (remove spare,rear/passenger seats) and I bet I could easily hit the 8:20s.

My car is almost ready.......anyone want to pony up for my flight and vehicle shipping:wub:

Add FI to that..........:headbang:
