Here is some info on it:

Cars Effected:
Jetta, new GTI, Rabbits, EOS (US Only)
Year: 2007 (hmm idk whats up with that)

Here is what it does: (useing dealer vag, dont know if it can be done w/ ross-tech vag, someone wanna check?)

17-Dash Panel Insert in vag
coding will have a 3 at the end
go under coding services
enter org 4 or 5 dig code
change last digit from 3 to a 7

this should fix it (less error, possibly 1-3% still)

use a pdf editor from foxit i think and you can do that, but i am not saying to use it for that reason

but yeah thats not a good idea to do, thats a nice way to get to jail and not see your car for a long time!

Whats funny is my cop sia di was doin 55 in a 30, and i rememebr looking at my spedo and it only read 50. Ive had my car on radar vs/ speedo and i read pretty damn high. Im still waiting for my court date though.

hey, i changed my 7203 coding to 7207...my climatronic still said 55 when my speedo said 60, 73 when my speedo said 80, etc.

my question: did it just not work for me, am i completely retarded, or did it adjust the climatronic as well?

a couple people on the vortex have said it's successful. if i need to look at my speedo and not my climatronic, that's great, just looking for some additional confirmation...

good call. The MDF has to reinitialize with the new settings. Maybe even turn off before you turn teh key back on.

Let us know. some people have this work.. some dont..

i thought that by putting bigger wheels on kinda fixed the error, werent people w/ 15 and 16 having the biggest problems and as the diameter of the wheel got bigger the error was less? or am i completely wrong! :)

thats a roundabout way of fixing it. but very small change.

isnt it illegal to have exact speed? i heard on every car there is atleast like 3-5% speedo error.

kosmo6
10-20-2006, 06:18 PM
well, i tried it again. back to 7207 and there absolutely no difference between that and 7203. 55 on the climatronic equals 60 on the speedo, 73 on the climatronic equals 80 on the speedo. damn...

how could it work on some but not on others? is there some other bit i must enable, or is this adjusting the climatronic at the same time?

My results: FAILED.

No fix.

My speedo 60mph = 56mph actual
My speedo 70mph = 65mph actual

The last digit change did nothing. It was a fun day tho while it lasted..

(everyone knows its easy to check this with MFD I assume)

Initial results for me seem positive. It is not dead on, but it seems much closer (basd on climate control). I plan on testing it some more by using one of those Ka radar based speed signs that display your speed. we have quite a few of those around town.

We (the forum members) were not the ones telling you that "nothing is wrong with your speedo". What we were insisting was that the corporate entity known as VW of America publicly stated that they did not believe that there was anything wrong with your speedometer reading.

Hey in NY they dont need to show up anymore, how do i know? Because i went through it.... If the cop doeasnt show up they still hold your trial, they do however take it down to a nonmoving violation. For NY MAKE SURE! you ask the cop to show the radar calabration papers, alot of times these papers are messed up, and you can get let off!

I have an '07 GTI (5 door, pkg. 2, DSG) and tried the "fix" last night and it did not work. My cluster is and always has been coded as U.S. The VAG-Com modifications that I have made are disabled DRL's, flash to pass, window operation with remote, and fogs on with high beams. I did not return everything to stock, but I wonder if that might make the change do something.

I also searched VAG-Com's website for some help, and found that VAG-Com recommends having a WSC code, importer code, and equipment code entered into your VAG-Com. There was a note that said that some modules cannot be recoded without this information. So I played around with these settings and still the update did not work.

So here I am, my speedometer still reads about 10% high and is virtually worthless at highway speeds.

I tried this with my Vag Com and no worky...Either there is something that the dealer needs to do with their program along with changing the number or it is not a real fix. If they come out with newer models of the car such as 08 and the speedo is accurate then why not just swap in the part that is accurate?

i just got my 2007 gti and one of the first things i noticed was this "problem". My spedometer said 80 but I knew there was no way I was going that fast. I really notice it at higher speeds (70+). It's pretty annoying. I mean I understand they do it for "safety" reasons but it shouldn't be off that much in my opinion. We really need a fix for this.
