View Full Version : Is TMTuning usually this bad?

Maybe I just got a caught in some bad luck with TMTuning, but, I ordered some misc stuff from TMT on June 3 and it's now Aug 14 and I've not received anything. Since TMT is in Germany, I wasn't expecting lightening fast shipping to Canada, and I was prepared to wait.

On June 30, I ordered some more stuff from TMT.

Surprisingly, I got an email from TMT on July 4 indicating that my first order hadn't yet been shipped since one of the items was backordered (TMT didn't bother to tell me it was backordered, I assumed it had been shipped). OK, backordered stuff happens, ship it now then.

To me, it sounds good since all items were now available, and they could bundle the two orders together in one shipment (and refund me some of my shipping since it would all be shipped together). Sounds great :thumbsup:

Well, that was July 4th. It's now Aug 14th and I've still not received anything from TMT. I've sent them emails asking for details (i.e., when my order was actually shipped, tracking #, who the shipper is, etc.), but I've not received anything other than "The package is transferred via postal service, this shipping method does not feature international tracking, because more than one shipping company is involved in transporting your package."

So, what now? Just sit and wait? I've bought tons of stuff from the US (bike parts, camera gear, car stuff, etc.) and have bought similar stuff from Europe, etc....it's never taken this long. I realize that stuff gets hung-up at Customs, etc. But, with no tracking mechanism, what to do if something happened to the shipment?

Around the same time, I also ordered from OEM+ and Parts4Euro...both shipped very fast! :thumbsup: Unfortunately, the bulk of my stuff is coming from TMT :(

Cheers,
Mike B.

6 week wait from them is not uncommon.

6 week wait from them is not uncommon.

especially if you choose the slowest option which is on a boat. Plus it has customs to go through.

Ive never waited more than 2 weeks for parts from them, but i awlays choose to upgrade to air shipping.

It took me nearly 2 months last time to receive a part from them. It's normal to have to wait a while from them. Worth it, though!

Totally worth the wait. Their prices are usually great. They're based in Germany so the long wait is understandable.

Ok, thanks guys. Guess I'll just bite-the-bullet and wait....sigh.

Yes, their prices were great relative to OEM+, etc. Next time, I'll spring for the faster shipping, I guess.

With TMT, I would have also liked to have been notified that my first order was going to be delayed due to a backordered item.

OEM+ and Parts4Euro both emailed me indicating something I was looking for was backordered, so I looked elsewhere. It's just courtesy, I guess.

At that point, I could have either cancelled my order with TMT or waited. But, I wasn't given that option. I assumed it had been shipped and hadn't been notified about the backorder.

So, with that assumption, I placed a second order with them. I probably would not have placed my second order with them had I known my first order still had not yet been shipped.

But, if everything arrives OK, then it might have worked-out since they said they'd ship both together and refund my shipping on the first order.

So, I just think better communication should have been done by TMT with the initial order. And, now with the (normal) delay, it's causing my frustrations towards TMT.

Cheers,
Mike B.

It isn't uncommon at all to wait this long. I love TMTuning and I shop from them very frequently. Usually I'll wait and order everything all at once(and ask friends if they need anything). Unfortunately, once its shipped out, there is very little they can do for you. Just wait a bit more... it'll get there :thumbup:

Tmtuning is a great company. I have ordered form them many times. No, your not going to get your order over night, but they are worth the wait. They always get back to me asap, even refunded shipping before. They cant give you tracking because its going thru multiple international couriers.

Well, my TMT order may be here afterall...unfortunately, I wasn't at home today when CanadaPost came knocking. But, they left their call tag and I went to their office around the corner to see if it was in. Unfortunately, my parcel wasn't there. So, I have to go back tomorrow to pick it up...yahoo! So, I may have some stuff to throw-on this weekend! :thumbsup:

Mike B.

I never really saw the need to call, actually. They were usually quick to reply to emails, so I never bothered to call.

TMT did tell me that my first order was delayed, but only after I had placed the second order....and, that was 25 days later. I had no reason to call TMT since I had assumed my first order had been shipped and I was patiently waiting. TMT should have sent me an email, or called me, to tell me that their was a problem/delay with my first order....OEM+ and Parts4Euro did.

With regards to the second order, TMT indicated that it had been shipped and there was no tracking info available since it was International.

So, again, no real reason to call since it had been shipped and since there's no tracking info, what can they tell me?

At any rate, it looks like my TMT order is here and I'll get my stuff tomorrow. For the next time I order from TMT, I'll be sure to ask if everything is available (i.e., not backordered) when I place my order. At least then I'll know if my order will be delayed. I can deal with the typical 2-4 weeks International shipping, but I'd like to know if there's a problem preventing my order from being shipped at the time of ordering. Seems reasonable.

Cheers,
Mike B.

If you order from them, don't be in a hurry.

Well, my shipment from TMT arrived today! :thumbsup: I guess I probably came-down hard on TMT, but I was frustrated after waiting so long for the first order. But, everything came through! I'd order from TMT again (after confirming everything was in-stock).

1 - R32 Euro tinted tails (w/ fog);
2 - Open fog light covers;
3 - R-line textured mirror covers;
4 - In.Pro smoked mirror signals;
5 - Red GTI badges and Rabbit;
6 - Euro switch; and,
7 - GTI lanyard.

How are there shipping prices? Reason I'm asking is that I know TMTuning has lower prices, but will the shipping prices combined still be lower than US vendors like OEMPL.US for those of us in the states?

Their shipping prices were (slightly) higher than say, OEM+. But, I'm in Canada, so I'd pay more for shipping from OEM+ than you would. So, the difference in shipping was minimal. However, for items like the R32 Euro tinted tails, the difference in price was $279US vs $425US. That difference alone made it worthwhile to order from TMT.

Ah, I guess it depends on the item. I just happen to live 10min away from OEMPL.US, so I'd be able to pick up. I'd just have to pay the CA sales tax.

Very nice. I'm considering the red GTI emblem for the front grille as well.
Why'd you purchase the entire front shield? Holes in your original one?

Yep.

I was surprised, dealer told me the GTI badge didn't come with the new grill, but it did. So, I'm going to keep one OE silver and the other red/silver. I had planned to remove the silver GTI lettering from my OE one. Now, I can interchange! :thumbsup:
