This is what happens when a Camry goes through a red light at approximately 45-50 mph and you are making a legal left turn at the same time...

Dude...your front end looked like my GLI. Your baby is bleeding bad, look at all the coolant on the pavement. At least you didn't get rear ended also. I hope you are okay.

What the heck is up with all these MKV being hit by things. :mad0259: I think MKV's secret have a "please ram into me with your vehicle" sign somewhere. Maybe the red line of our grill? :iono:

The headlights and alternator is gonna be the most expensive parts to replace FYI. No frame damage hopefully. Good luck man, keep us updated.

i hate ppl like that camry (or what it is). His car costs at most 500$ so he dont care. I met lots of ppl on the road that were just waiting to have an accident so they can buy a new car from insurance

That sucks man... My GTI got hit about a month and a half after I bought it. But not as bad as that. Damn...

Look at it this way - having a safe car apparently paid off because you're alive and you're not in the hospital.

so whos at fault? i hope no one got hurt.

In this case, one would hope that the other driver was at fault. He's the one who ran the red light.

I am perfectly fine on my end. A couple bruises and a little airbag burn, but still in one piece. She was definitely at fault, blew through that red light!

I honestly hope they total it, I really don't want to deal with the extensive repairs they are going to do. Going to the grave-yard to check out the damage. The adjuster for her insurance called me yesterday after I made the claim, asked me what year it was and if it was totaled. I told her 2007, and she was like "Really"? Funny... maybe she didn't understand me, when I told her I was hit at about 50 mph in the front of my car...

EDIT: Hobo... you want smoked tires? (too many uncontrolled DSG launches... maybe an .:R would be nice for that)

Always a good idea to look and scan the intersection even if you do have the right away. Sorry about the accident tho, can be very inconvenient and time consuming. http://www.genmay.com/images/smilies/h34rt.gif

Unfortunately it was kinda a blind left turn, (two lane left turns on both ways of traffic and traffic was in pretty heavy in all the turn lanes...). I didn't see her until I was already crossing the first lane of the highway.

I really just wonder if this thing is going to be totaled and got to find out how much their insurance is going to tell me it's worth. Thank god I kept my receipts/invoices for all my mods. (APR, EVOMS, Hoen fogs, open fog grills, etc.)

get a lawyer, make sure its totalled cuz thats way too much damage to ever have the car be the same again, parts for MKVs are so backordered you wouldn't get your car back for 9 months. Took em 3 months to put my bunny back together and all it needed was body panels, intake pieces, radiator, and a secondary air pump. Go to the doctor if you haven't already, my wrist was just a little stiff after my wreck and it wound up being broken in a very awkward place

Hope you are ok. As bad as the accident seems, the camry seems to have absorbed the most damage.

I remember a long time ago in my '87 accord, a vw cabrio hit me, sliced my car pretty much in half. only damage to her car was a broken signal and maybe a bent fender, but she was hot though lol.

Appreciate the advice. Going to see the doctor anyways for an appointment this Monday anyway. They didn't even have a contact number of her policy to give her a call that same day.

aaah the horror.... i feel for you man, hopefully they deem it totalled, it looks like it, so you can get a brand new 08 GTI or R32.. good thing your alright... i guess safe really does happen

Glad your okay though. I wouldn't get another GTI, maybe an .:R. When my car was claimed a total, I said well I'm not going to get another fresh start like this so might as well try out another car.

I purchased an 2008 BMW 135i in Black. Sold my 2.0T Wolfsburg Jetta last night and planning to pick up a 2004 Audi S4 this upcoming Wednesday. I just love German bred cars. :iono:

Based off the pictures, your estimate should be pretty damn close to my $20,000 estimate.

Beware of the insurance company. That is a big job. I was royally screwed. Similar accident. Total costs were $18K, the ins appraiser came out and initally said 8K. supplement after supplement, 3 months, 6 different rentals and 2K later i got back a POS. The whole ordeal cost me another 2K for the new GTI, I had to go and buy. I fought with Alstate for a while because they should have totaled it. Anyway... hope your OK.

Check out the pics in my Grage.

:UPDATE:

Well checked out the car today... things i noticed intake manifold is cracked, intercooler is done, both front quarter panels, engine is shifted approximately 6-8 inches to the the right, all the components to the right of the engine is fubar, haven't even seen whats going behind the intercooler but probably not pretty at all.

I hope Nationwide (the other driver's insurance) isn't going to be pain in the ass with this. Just reading some horror stories about them and their "tactics".

If they make this painless, I am definitely looking into a '08 CW GTI DSG w/votex... here is to finding one though.

Doctor7474
05-04-2008, 12:16 AM
Yea rumor is Nationwide is struggling right now too, they've cut tons of jobs recently.

Do not agree to anything verbally or other wise until you are sure you have what you want. If need be contact your states insurance comissioner or what ever you have there.

If you prefer you can contact your insurance company and have them do there own appraisal of the vehicle as they are the ones that are going to be responsible for the vehicle after its fixed (if it doesn't out right total).

Read up on what the laws are in your area regarding replacement parts (LKQ), repairs ect....

Basically how totalling a car is figured is this:

Estimate of repairs + salvage value > retail value of the car in your area = total

Estimate of repairs + salvage value < retail value of the car in your area = fix it.

If estimate of repairs + salvage value of the car does not equal the retail value of the car in your area but is more then 70% of the retail value of the car most of the time its totaled unless is a huge difference.

That's how I handle an estimate that may be a total. And the retail value is not based on KBB or NADA or any of those guides its based off a listing of what car lots/private individuals in your area are actually selling the cars for.

Just from what I see, im about 95% sure your car is totaled. Both front frame rails like I said earlier are swayed badly, they both need to be replaced, appears to be subframe damage, possible engine/trans/axle/suspension damage, the acessories on the front of the engine are gone, ac lines, condensor, radiator, cooling fans, core support, both front aprons, both front fenders, front bumper cover, head lights, hood, inner fender liners, bumper, reinforcement, ect.... lot of damage there.

If it makes you happy there car is definately totaled, older cars are not worth the price it takes to fix them.

Damn! That's not going to buff out.

:UPDATE:

So the claims adjuster for the other person's insurance calls me this morning to tell me that they began appraise the vehicle. She tells me the he see's $9400 in repairs in his semi-appraisal (still has to get under the vehicle to see more). Then she follows up with this line, "The problem is that she only has $10,000 in Property damage coverage." :mad0259: I was going to blow up if I wasn't in the hospital's lobby waiting for my appointment. WTF! Got to love the insurance requirements this state has!!! People driving their shitty cars around without a care in the world.

So now I am in the process of filing through my insurance. I fear that they won't cover my performance parts I put on (maybe they will since I am not at fault). Should see my insurance's appraiser tomorrow or Wednesday to figure this out.

I thought some of the parts I will need to fix this back ordered for at least of a couple of months. What a way to begin a week. :frown:

You can always take legal action to recover the rest of your loss.

backwoods_retard
05-05-2008, 06:23 PM
Might need to do that. Wonder if this does effect my premiums since it was no-fault?

xminusx
05-05-2008, 07:04 PM
It shouldnt, it wasnt your fault.

Doctor7474
05-05-2008, 07:05 PM
Ok so was the other persons fault correct? The other person on there insurance coverage only decided to cover property damage for 10k when the ave car is about 20k. Get a lawyer now and sue the shit out of the dumbass's that only decided to get 10k worth of property damage insurance.

Also any dime your own insurance company spends as a pay out to you, or due to you effects your premium, there's different categorys I guess you could say that determine what % your premium goes up, such as you were drunk driving and hit another car was totally your fault ect... has a higher % that your premium to go up vs something like comprehension or uninsured motorist ect... but any claim paid to you on your policy causes premium to go up.

Like I said before, call your insurance company, have them do an appraisal (because technically they are responsiple for your car), have a body shop you trust do an appraisal, the more you have the better idea you have as to what the real cost is going to be. Also the more eyes you have look at something the less likely there is something missed, such as another guy on here that they kept having to add stuff to the repairs and when said and done he got back a car that should have been totaled if they would have caught everything in the beginning.

Again get 3 appraisals, 1 from there insurance, 1 from yours, 1 from body shop. If the liable insurance doesn't cover it all, get a lawyer and go after the owner of the vehicle.

I sent APR an e-mail seeing if they would would reflash my new vehicle for only a labor fee after hearing about my situation (Had mine fash done at '07 H20i. What do you guys think?

sad to hear about the accident. good thing they declared it totalled and that your alright. APR should honor a reflash especially if you explain your situation and include pics and a insurance statement saying its totalled maybe just to prove that that ECU is no longer being used. that is rediculous that the other driver only has 10k covered but that is not your problem because your insurance company will cover all costs then go after her and her insurance for reimbursment. you should not have to be involved with that part of the process at all. good luck and keep us updated.
