My first time out...

R/T ...1.039
60' ...2.308
1/8 ...9.820
1/4 ...15.130
MPH ...92.88

gah. I'm such a noob.
Any tips on good launches there you guys??

All I have is an intake. Oh yes, 6mt too.

I launched at 2200rpms twice and sorta bogged. Last time, I launched at 2700-2800rpms and did alright but spun a bit.

Any tips on the shifting **EDIT: LAUNCHING ***? I think thats the thing going on here...

first wake up at the tree. then flat shift at the red line."dont let off the gas between shifts"

Yes, reaction time doesnt matter one bit, dont get rushed, launch when your ready. And please, don't shift like that unless you want to buy a new transmission.

Just get that 60' down, get the PSI up in the rears, psi down in the front. Go with about 1/4 or less tank. and just practice practice practice. Its going to take some experimentation to find a way that works for you. You want to be on the edge of breaking traction.

Rip out stereo(incl speakers), rear seats, passenger seat, install Sparco drivers seat, tear out all carpeting, install CF hood...You'll be well on your way to 14's :)

How does reaction time not mater? If driver A has a reaction time of .5 and driver B has a reaction time of 1.0, and they both launch and do everything else the same, logic dictates that driver A is going to get there .5 seconds quicker than driver B be cause driver A reacted .50 seconds faster....No?

Hes only racing the clock. And the clock doesnt start untill he breaks the beams. If he was actually racing the person next to him sure, but his reaction time is not factored into his ET

Right. Of course.

Yeah your not shifting fast probably, but let off the gas in between shifts of your tranny might go boom.

don't flat shift your car. the flywheel is SUPER heavy and there's no need to flat shift the car. try shifting at 6k instead of redline and launch just under 3 grand. slip the clutch on the launch, don't just drop it and spin the tires. when you're changing gears, shift like there's a huge tsunami chasing after you and you want to GTFO as fast as you can.

double clutching.. not letting off the gas when you shift is called power shifting.. its only good if you know what your doing or else your gonna f up your tranny.. so does double clutching.. do it but dont do it so much

lol werd. I love how people assume if you drive DSG you can't shift worth shit in a manual. Obviously I wouldn't be able to outshift a DSG though and that's why I got this in my DD

i wasn't assuming you cant drive manual, i was only saying that you haven't driven a manual gti. our flywheel is heavy as shit and it takes about mar's solar orbit for it to lower the rev's. since it sticks up high, there's no need to flat shift.

my first GTI (lemon) was a 6mt. I know the manual stinks in these cars, that's why I got a DSG.

I was just joking about the 6mt and dsg.but flat shifting properly wouldnt be to hard on the tranny you just gotta be fast. no worse than someone who can't shift. no disrespect intended.

if you know how to do it correctly it's one thing but recommending it to the OP who obviously needs more training in the MT department it's a big no no.

Ok hold on guys...

First, I will never power shift.
2nd, I was shifting as if I was trying to beat the 1000hp dude next to me.
3rd, I was dumping the clutch... even though I said I wouldn't.
^ has to be why.

And please, no DSG vs MT in here.

Tom just go out on the highway whenever your on the on ramp and just hit it... try and focus on fast shift (i know your rolling) but its about the shifting as well.

your shifting is probably fine
its your launch that is poor
2.3 60ft is bad
if u cut a 2.0 , your doing good
and everyone says 0.1 in your 60 ft equals 0.2 in your ET
so a 2.0 will get you 14.5, which is the norm for these cars

fwd, your gonna have to spin the tires a bit, its faster than bogging

I'd say if you're in 2.1X 60' you're doing well. I've seen very few people do a 2.0X or less on street tires. I'm prolly saying this because all I could ever do with my Drag Radials was like 2.14 or something, but I also suck at driving in a straight line.
