This past Thursday night, my buddy and I were heading downtown to celebrate my friend's 21st birthday. As we were driving we came to a green light and noticed a red Saturn sedan was stopped dead ahead in our lane. I stopped behind her and honked, couldn't switch lanes as there was too much traffic. Within a second of laying on the horn, my car was hit by a White 1998 Jeep Cherokee. The impact slammed my car into the Saturn infront of me and I was at least 8 ft away.
It took awhile for my buddy and me to figure out what the hell happened. We both got out and I looked around, no car behind me or infront. The rear of my car was smashed in, the trunk was up against the rear windshield. My front end was destroyed, turbo coolant leaked everywhere, the radiator and FMIC got smashed in. Both right side doors wouldn't open correctly.
The Jeep had minor front end damage and the Saturn had minor rear end damage. My car got the worst of it. I'm glad my buddy and I were able to walk away without any life-threatening injuries. It was also my first accident so it scared me pretty good.
I made a claim with her insurance company Friday and should be getting more info by Monday. I'll be posting up pictures of my GLI once I get ahold of my friend who has the pictures.

I'll probably try to take whatever I can take off my car and sell it. But if I want insurance to pay me for my after-market parts, I have to leave them on the car. But my buddy is going to contact my insurance and bank to see how much he can purchase my totaled GLI for.
My top choice at the moment is an .:R.

I believe so, as long as you have proof of the purchases.
Ya its going to be a pain in the ass to go through the process of getting a car again.

not sure if you read it from you other thread since a bunch of guys went at it in there but this was what I contributed.
I would get into another forced induced car IMO. I test drove the R at Osborn Automotive a couple days ago and went back to Emich just to give it another shot and see if there was gonna be a difference....nada......I was not impressed at all, especially since it suffers up here at our altitude. Its a lot of money to cough up when you might not be happy, especially when coming from a stage 2 GLI up here.

Was your GLI DSG? I'm not trying to make this a DSG vs 6 speed war, but if you have the 6 speed and think you will regret a DSG in the long run, I wouldn't do the R.
Honestly, if it were me, I'd look at MkIV R32's. Yeah, they're getting "old" and running out of warranty and are still pricey, but there's something about them that is wicked (my friend's R makes me regret my car in ways).
Now if DSG is your thing, then you will be happy with the MkV R32.

I hate to break it to you, but unless you had formally told your insurance company about the aftermarket add-ons, they won't pay you a nickel for them.
I had a 1990 Nissan Twin Turbo 300ZX modded to 430HP stolen about 3 years ago. I didn't get a penny for the thousands I had spent on any of the mods - brakes, shocks, springs, ECU - nothing, and I had all of the receipts. I had spent $7K on the year in the previous 12 months, so you know it hurt when the check I got from them was only $8K, after the $1K deductible.
I never told them about the mods because I was afraid they'd either jack up my rates or cancel my policy (they're not stupid - they'd have figured out the mods weren't added to make the car safer, and less risky to insure), and I never figured it would get stolen. Had I wrecked it, I could've legally stripped all the aftermarket goodies off since they weren't insured to begin with. Chalk it up to livin' and learnin'.
Now I'll let them know about everything I do to my GTI, except for engine mods, even if it's a measly $50 part.
Good luck with your claim, but I'd be ready to do some quick wrenching if I were you. Just remember, if they're not going to pay you for it, then you have the right to take it.

Last time i checked with my insurance they told me they cover all parts that arent designated at PERFORMANCE parts. I.E. audio peices, body kits, lighting, etc. But shit like exhaust, intake, engine parts, thats all a no go with insurance coverage.

so does that mean though you can take it off teh car and sell it? sorry to hear about it, im assuming its all on the other drivers and not you right? how does the verdict look, is it more on the jeep for not looking ahead or the saturn for stopping? was there any reason for the saturn not to be moving like they just stalled or engine died? let me know once you start parting out, am interested in your intake and dv.

Not to go further off topic, but isn't there some type of "show car" insurance that covers the modifications that's completely separate from your normal insurance? If there is, it may be worth looking into, but I'd imagine you have to have at least 5-6k invested in modifications to make it worth the extra cost.

Thanks everyone.
I am still interested in the .:R as I still want to be part of the V-Dub community. But my buddy just found two deals for me. 2007 Subaru STI in Black (12K miles) for $26,1000. Can probably talk that down. And 2007 Subaru WRX TR in Silver (13K miles) for $20,000. My next car is definately going to be AWD.
I'll keep updating about my situation. So far the lady's insurance claims office still have not contacted me.
I have no idea why the Saturn was stopped, going to pick-up the police report in a couple minutes. But I do know the lady with the Jeep that hit me was arrested for a DUI. Since its a DUI case, its all on her is what I was told.

Thats kind of true.. When my civic was totalled, I didnt report any aftermarket parts. I was reimbursed for all the parts because they were on the car when it was totalled.

damn...sorry to hear it. since it wasn't your fault, then you should push to have the parts reimbursed. however, if the accident was your fault, and you didn't elect to cover the aftermarket parts, then that's a different story.

There is a big distinction to be made here. Mods might not be covered by your own insurance if you didn't tell them about the mods, but he's claiming on the policy of the drunk who hit him. It is his property that was damaged by their client's negligence.
Now claiming against your own coverage is another story. They cover what you tell them you're insuring. You gotta tell them what you're having covered and they'll tell you what it'll cost you. If you lead your insurance company to believe that you have a stock car, then you will get coverage for a stock car. If you don't like the price you're quoted, then you shop it around.
That said, I'm no lawyer, so I may be full of it.
To the OP. Glad y'all were alright. Best of luck with the insurance claim.

Gawd man, lucky you weren't hurt. Just be very careful now with the insurance companies, some might treat you very fairly, but others might not. Be prepared for when they do tell you that your car has been declared a total loss to give them information about the value that shows it is worth more than they estimate. Are you sure you werent' hurt at all? You might want to make sure you won't have something come up later.

Kinda sucks, my car is an 08 so theres no blue book value yet. Gotta go through sales by invoice. A great buddy of mine at a local VW dealership said my car is worth $26,600 (Deductions were made based off mileage). Bought it for $27,250. Didn't depreciate that much.
But I had preliminary x-rays and had to get an MRI. Doctor believes I damaged a disc in my neck area and torn tissue. Still got mad headaches, probably have to get a CAT scan.
