So I had a dispute with the VW dealer after I brought my 06 GTI in for 5k service oil change. I discussed doing the synthetic oil. After I got home I was looking closer at the invoice and see that they charged me for a regular oil change and not a synthetic oil change.

I called back and voiced my concerns. They supposedly spoke with the tech and they say it was just a billing mistake. But they can confirm they did put in synthtic.

So I don't know if I really belive them. So the question... is there a way to test if the oil in my engine is regular or synthetic?

Yes, by oil analysis. Get a test kit for around $25. And specify you want to know just that.
Amsoil has test kits that are sent to an independant lab.
