Got my brand-new 2008 gti recently and was too excited to test the launch control until recently. It turns out that my gti doesn't have launch control?!! When the brake pedal is hold, my gti can only rev to 1000rpm or so. btw I bought mine in US. Thx!!

could it be the dealer who intentionally disable launch control in order to keep the car more reliable?? cannot figure it out.

Just curious, since I have a MT, how do you put the DSG in sport mode?

it's just one shift position below D:

P
R
N
D
S

You don't...it's just a DSG thing. Another quick question....what's the difference between driving in "D" and in "S"? Quicker acceleration or what?

Your left foot is launch control in a MT. That's the point of launch control in a DSG... to make it behave like a manual.

In sport mode, the engine revs higher hence keeping it longer in a lower gear = more power!

Be nice until it's broken in though...seriously. Wait till you have the break in oil out before launching and redlining.

The transmission shifts more aggressively and only uses the first 5 gears. Holds the shifts longer until the most optimum rpms for acceleration.

while we're on this topic-- can you shift back and forth between D and S while you're driving? Say I want to launch in S, but then decide I want to drive around in D... Do I have to stop to change?

Thanks!

No, you can shift from D to S at any time.

The DSG tranny is your bitch - u can switch to any gear at any time (well, in order). I made SURE of this while I was test driving b/c it was just to crazy to believe. It will not let you redline dangerously and if using the paddleshifters, it will return to D or S if you forget to.

I have a 2008 and I have launch control stock. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgEK17Ffslk

Follow those steps in order, and if you can't get it to work, call your dealer!

My DSG is into bondage but I just don't feel right wearing latex pants...

Launch Control also works if the DSG is in manual mode with ESP off. Highest u can rev is 3200rpm. The Japanese Best Motoring video said optimal point is 2400rpm. 207 torques on launch is pretty mind blowing for a small car (for me anyway lol!)
