hi all, i really need some help due to other forums being so unhelpful, here it goes,- i saw a 2000 golf cabriolet is mint condition very nice to drive but one thing its overdue on its service and is making a slight hopping/jumpy feel when you put your foot down a bit. Also the person i am buying it off has not driven it for around one year ( i am sure he's started it but has not physicly driven it due to losing his licence,)

so i am guessing its got crappy petrol, together with out a service, plugs, fuel filter being renewed !

so what do you think? service, redex and fresh petrol?

thanks for repling in advanced

My brothers 2002 Jetta (bora) 2.0l 8v had a stumbling issue, turned out to be a coolant temp sensor and a coil pack. After those were replaced the car runs excellent again..

the 8v is a simple motor, however that year is known for having coil pack issues accross the engine platforms..

I would see if you could find a diagnostic tool (not sure how readily available they are in the UK) but check the ECU and if it comes back clear, have at it.

I would say that its probably a good idea to replace the battery, change the oil and oil filter, and probably the fuel filter. You'll also want to check all the hoses and wires and replace anything that seems the least bit cracked or brittle.
