Hi,

I've just taken delivery in the UK of my new Golf R32 Mk 5 (just a GTI on steroids). It has a nice DVD navigation system which works reasonably well, but one very annoying habit. When no route guidance is in progress, the Multi-Function-Display works fine showing my trip details like economy, mileage, time etc.
Once route guidance is engaged, the MFD is hijacked to display direction arrows and guidance information. The MF steering wheel controls now just control the CD player, and nothing I can do will pull up the normal MFD displays.
This is very annoying, since I now have three versions of the guidance: a voice, the colour screen in the center of the dashboard AND the MFD in-front of me - all displaying the same information. And now I have no way of getting any trip information.
Has anyone got any ideas about how I can get around this??

Oz

Thanks SMP85 ! I've taken to turning the satnav on and off all the time as I travel :frown:! My friendly dealer has agreed to get one of their "technical experts" to have a look at it - probably finger trouble on my part.

Sorry no suggestions  I'm waiting for the R32 to come to the states, can you post any pics of your sweet ride? Did you go with the DSG and how is the suspension? I live in NYC and for the most part the roads aren't very smooth so I'm worried about a harsh ride.

Thanks in advance

Yep. I went with the DSG. The regular D mode is great for pootling around! Because the changes are so smooth it feels more like a continuosly variable transmission, and it is pretty good for fuel economy as well. Because of the torque at low-end, it changes up to 6th by about 30mph if you don't put your foot down. The changes in the S mode are a little rough for my liking, and its stays in too low a gear for normal driving, so I tend to just knock the lever sideways and go for manual changes. I use the gear shift to change gear while I'm cornering (when the paddles are not in reach) and the paddles otherwise. It overrides your actions if you either redline or labour the engine, but otherwise the driver stays in control. I've found myself changing manually more and more, just to get the best noises out of the car  As for the suspension, it smoother than the S2000 I had before and absorbed small, sharp bumps (like joins int he road) very well. It wallows a bit on roads which undulate, but then again, I am used to the S2000 which is set up very hard. I reckon our roads than the ones I remember in NYC so, unless you go down a sink-hole, you should be fine. This is a great car.
