Adv4nc3r_Mk5

ive just found cheap GTI middle piece, that would make the final cost for a whole bumper incl painting around 150 eur, but i dont wanna look like a GTI wannabe
Adv4nc3r_Mk5
07-15-2009, 05:17 PM
Jetta/GT front is hard to find, more expensive, but overall looks better IMO
Adv4nc3r_Mk5
07-15-2009, 05:17 PM
if i would go with a GTI front, i would definitely get rid of that badge, and change that red strip to silver color

GTI2007
07-15-2009, 05:29 PM
The GTI, GT and Jetta bumper are the same piece. The main difference between the 3 are the grills and the middle piece which is chromed for the Jetta while just black for the GTI and the GT
Adv4nc3r_Mk5

AFAIK the middle piece is together with grille, which is different for GTI and GT
GTI2007
07-16-2009, 02:19 PM
That's indeed true altough I'm still thinking a bit of combining the Jetta middle piece with the badgeless GTI grills for my Golf
Adv4nc3r_Mk5
07-16-2009, 02:32 PM
i dont want to modify anything. i would love to have gt front, as the black makes nice contrast to silver and im getting rid of chrome on sides anyway
GTI2007
07-16-2009, 03:35 PM
What chrome on the sides? You mean the strip alongside the rub strips?
Adv4nc3r_Mk5
07-16-2009, 05:02 PM
yep, thats what i mean. my side mouldings that are supposed to magically protect my car from door dings. they are made of two pieces, one chrome look and one colormatched
Adv4nc3r_Mk5
07-16-2009, 05:05 PM
my dad agrees with me on mods, we even saw a GTI on a parking lot in front of Tesco, we were standing there, talking, pointing, ppl were like WTF they are doing? so it looks like i will start buying my new front piece after piece, starting with middle section with honeycomb grill for 25 pounds from ebay
GTI2007
07-16-2009, 05:18 PM
Good luck with it. Post pics when you are done with it
Adv4nc3r_Mk5
07-16-2009, 05:27 PM
i will not be done till next year, because i will buy mainly from ebay, and im waiting for best possible prices. tuning on budget
so:
-centre piece with honeycomb 25,- (auction ends tomorrow, will try to get in touch with ebayer)
-whole bumper 25,- plus 20 postage (lives too far from my location and the color is red. idk how it will look like overpainted with silver)
-side grilles around 20,-
Adv4nc3r_Mk5
07-16-2009, 05:31 PM
and after i finish my front, then
-shaved doors from those mouldings
-r32 rear with no exhaust cutout
-side skirts (possibly GTI)
-new windscreen (current one is not original, that asshole bought cheap replica from poland)
-chip (140hp)
-wheels 17" from VW for 100.-
GTI2007
07-16-2009, 06:06 PM
Those plans sound nice but why don't you get the R32 sideskirts. Those are the same as the GTI ones but they are already primered so much easier to paint then
Adv4nc3r_Mk5
07-16-2009, 06:20 PM
idk about details. i already pm'ed ebayer for centre piece, will see if he will reply tomorrow, so maybe on weekend i will have it. thats probably all for now. i found a cheap red GTI bumper, and i dont know if its not going to be a problem painting that to silver
Adv4nc3r_Mk5
07-16-2009, 06:30 PM

so i spent 20 euros on something i cant really use, and while taking my door panel off i scretched plastic on few places and broke 2 tabs holding it in place. VW is closed now, i have to wait till tomorrow, they should be opened, and buy new tabs. i wonder how much that will be. hope not more then 2 euros

well, its not worth making a new thread for this. solution is only one: if i want to apply Dynamat on my doors i have to somehow rip off my speaker, glue that Dynamat thingie and then somehow again put the speaker in its place. so im leaving ot for next summer, when all modding will start happening..

Adv4nc3r_Mk5

i still cant get over the fact that they used damn rivets to mount speakers. every single car we ever had and messed with had normal screws, just mine golf has rivets. i can only dream about better sound for now
Adv4nc3r_Mk5
07-28-2009, 02:21 PM
and ive been in vw dealership today again, ordered correct fog lamp cover because that fool used UK version grille with 4 bars on left side, and 6 bar version on right side, so from front view it looked ghey. will try to sell the 4 bar version on the internet, to get few pounds back from it. then i will have to order gloss B pillar covers, because i have matte on left and gloss on right side. lots of small detailes he didnt care to sort out
Adv4nc3r_Mk5
07-28-2009, 02:24 PM

GTI2007

i dont know what might be wrong but i just cant get better fuel consumption then 6.6 l/100km. i used to have 5.0, on long trips even 4.2. maybe its just because im driving very short distance to work (5km at most)
GTI2007
07-30-2009, 04:34 PM
Just saw that the S3 (similar engine to the Golf R normally) is 0.2 seconds faster to 100 km/h with the S-Tronic gearbox or what Audi calls the DSG
Adv4nc3r_Mk5

That could be the problem cause a TDI requires longers distances to get the average below 5 l/100 km cause our Golf averages 4.9 l/100 km during the last 2,000 km
