yeh, we've got a few events organised between now and the 9th October.

The first is a dogs night, I think we've raised about 300 pounds on ticket sales alone for that and its on 16th May.

Then there is the CurryOkie, singing and eating, with the odd smattering of beer, what could be mor fun.

Then on or around the 9th October we're having a waxing evening where all the team members will be waxed / shaved down for the swim the following week.

The swim is the 15-16 October. It looks like its going to be 36 miles or so. So going on the current swimmer pace we're looknig at doing it in around 12-14 hours

I do that in about an hour, most of our training sessions are 2-2.5k and they are pretty quickly paced. I need to start increasing the distance now so I'll be ready for Oct.

I had to stop with the long distance myself due to an old shoulder injury. I dislocated me left shoulder when I was about 10 and it didn't heal properly.... the Marine Corps. didn't help things much.

I haven't been able to get out past a mile or so since I got out of the Marines.

I know all about that mate, when I started swimming again in October last year i did 25 meters and I was fcuked. After 50m i thought i was going to drown and after 75m I was ready to cry i was that scared of going under and got being able to get back to the surface.

I was swimming in Montana right after I got out of the Corps. and my brother in law (7 years old) was with me in a river. we were hanging out on a small "island" in the center of the river that we walked out to.

about 30 minutes into hangin out, I hear the little guy screamin. I jumped in, swam out to him and by the time I got there, I was done. He had been swept down a ways. If the swim wasn't enough... the little guy decided to fight me every chance he had on our way to shore.

now, all my training in water survival in the Marines told me to ditch the victim and save myself first rather than both of us go down. Well, the kid was 7.... I couldn't do that to him. by luck, I felt a bolder under the water and nabbed it with one foot.

I was able to stand there (kinda) just long enough to catch my breath and calm the kid down. Safe to say, I don't swim in rivers with kids anymore.
