The new Volkswagen Golf has been delayed. Sales will now start in 2009 – six months later than planned.
The MkVI was expected to make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, before hitting UK dealers in the autumn. However, tweaks to the original design have forced the company to put back its arrival. Bosses will unveil the next-generation model at the Paris Motor Show in September 2008.
Auto Express reported on the potential delay in February, when boss Martin Winterkorn took over the reins at VW and immediately demanded a review of three forthcoming cars: the Golf, the Tiguan and the Scirocco.
The new SUV has already been launched, and the Scirocco Coupé will arrive here late next year, as expected. But while these models escaped the review without delays, a host of changes to the Golf’s design have held up the project.
Fans of the Polo supermini face an even longer wait. VW has revealed the all-new car will join the line-up during the second half of 2009.

That was the model before it was torn apart again by a new designer. I would imagine it wont stray far from that but it is going to look different if I am nto mistaken.

This is just one of the numerous computer-generated renderings of the car. I really don't think that it will have the chrome grille, and that this is the final version of the car. Well, the actual reason for the delay is the VW general manager's unsatisfaction with the final product, and he ordered a re-design... so nobody knows yet what it will look like, and we just have to wait until September of 2008 when it will be officially unveiled...

No IRS = dumb
All the competition will have it. These days VW needs to bring it to the table... features, driving experience and reliability while keeping the price competitive. Maybe Porsche will help with that...

If you want a Bluetec hybrid, you'll have to look to Mercedes-Benz - not VW

So are they already making the next generation Golf, or is this one going to be more like a MKV.5?

No, it's a new generation. The difference betwen the MK5 and MK6 though won't be as big as it was between Mk4 and Mk5.

Well, I really think that MK5 will be the best Golf for the next few generations. "What does VW have against MK5", you ask... Well, the short answer is - not enough financial gain for the company from its sales - it takes too long to manufacture (twice the time as some competitors' cars), it's too expensive to make, and the profit margins are way too low... Perhaps, they've made the MK5s so good hoping that the good build quality and excesive amount of standard features will attract the wider audience to buy these cars... VW was hoping that with the mk5s they would re-establish themselves as one of the "top dogs" in the auto industry in North America as well --- but, the plan seems to have failed... VW Golf/GTI/Rabbits are still bought by VW loyal customers only and the profits from these haven't been what VW was hoping for...
The need for a new series comes from the need to start making more money (or spending less on the production of the cars), and that to me means only loss in the build quality... They will probably establish a plant somewhere where the labour will be cheaper and will design the car in a way to cut down production time and cost...
I just hope they don't change the design of the car too much as I love the look of the MK5s...
