After reading this post http://forums.vwvortex.com/zer...age=1 (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2581554&page=1), It got me thinking and I did some research on my own. I was able to dig up the part numbers from ebay.de. It is for the factory order option to have the iPod controller mounted in the center armrest for cars that have the 6-disk option/opening. This option is for the Europe only "Volkswagen Individual Program", more info here http://www.volkswagen.de/vwcms....html (http://www.volkswagen.de/vwcms_publish/vwcms/master_public/virtualmaster/de3/modelle/golf/golf0/rund_um_den_golf/individualisierung.html)

From what I can see, this modification will only be available on Navigation equiped US GTI's because of the center console being different size openings. You could probably go around this by ordering a new center console from your local dealer, and then the cable needed to run from the headunit back to the new console. Since navi cars already come with the cable, cd changer and correct console...this mod is truly plug-n-play. This is by far superior to the unit sold at dealerships now here in the US. No need to run wires, take the unit out and the ipod sits in its own little cradle nice and snug. This will also allow you to use all steering wheel controls, charge the ipod and controll the iPod from the head unit as well. By the way, VWOA you stink for not offering this to the US buyers (yet??) But its fun to order Euro only parts and install them anyways.... =)

Part numbers needed

iPod Center Console unit : 1KO 857 925A 1QB $159.00 USD

Sleeve adapter for the ipod :1KO 868 003 $10.00 USD (Nano, Mini, Photo, Video and other models. You must order this to make it work correctly and have the unit sit flush so it does not rattle)

Now the fun part!!! Pictures.....

to elaborate a little bit more, i noticed you have the non sat-nav head unit. that unit has the 6 disc changer in the head unit standard, but the sat-nav does not, which is why those equipped have a 6 disc changer in the arm rest. for those who dont have sat-nav, i assume you could wire up that ipod adapter as well, so you could have a 6 disc changer and an ipod adapter at the same time

Which Sat nav is this I didn't think you could play songs while the sat nav is running, Is this due to the CD changer?

quailallstar
06-01-2006, 06:20 PM
Is your question: can I listen to audio while the navi is on ? Well yes you can. When I had the cd-changer in the car and you had the navi one, yes you could listen and the voice would still talk. Same thing goes for the ipod hook up :) hope that answered the question.

Yes thank you, What model number is your sat nav? and the model number of your cd autochanger?

quailallstar

I don't know the part number off the navi since it came with the car. The cd changer I can get you the part number once I get home.

Could be, but its not sure it is the same part. It could be the other iPod hookup that is just a cable coming out of the armrest.

Does anyone have a picture of the ipod mini insert that fits inside the ipod adapter to make the Ipod Mini fit snug?

I have the adapter, but they did not give me the the inserts and now the mini disconnects under hard accel. or braking. Mine was the first car the dealer delivered with the Ipod prep and therefore do not know how it should look.

Any pics would be great thanx.

Just got my 06 GTI and I want to drop this iPod adaptor in the center console.
Where do I get the part?

My Fast doesn't like me carrying around that 6 disc changer everywhere i go. Especially since I don;t even own any CD's.

Also- is there an adaptor that will play the iPod video files on the Navi screen?

Hi, I'm new here, just got my 06 GTI and I want to do this too. Do you know if the connector in the center console is already there on the 06? I don't have the changer so the console is a little different to start. This is my first project on it, then my next will be adding sirius.

Oops, sorry. I don't know how I reposted that. The wiring harness that's shown in the "where the unit installs into" pic in the Ipod DIY photo.

Also, I didn't see all the euro only info.. I guess that shoots my idea of the ipod connector.. I saw you can order a whole new console and replace it but that's pretty expensive.. I'll stick with the sirius.

i have the ipod integration but its shit because u cant play any songs that you want you have to no exactly what number every single track is.
basically it doesn't tell you the names of the songs and that blows

There are likely differences between the US and ROW head units.
The CD/changer (iPod) cable shares a head unit connector with
satellite radio (US) or auxiliary input (ROW).

With that in mind, from the Bentley repair manual for US spec cars ...

Wiring for the connector on the radio side of the head unit.
http://dataton.net/vw/electrical/cd_sat-radio-blue_connector4.jpg (http://dataton.net/vw/electrical/cd_sat-radio-blue_connector3.jpg)

Here are all the Premium 7 pin assignments for the 12 pin blue connector
Blue = CD/Changer = iPod Dock = US market auxiliary input
Red = US market satellite radio = ROW auxiliary input

1 - Satellite radio tuner input, audio left
2 - CD changer, left and right port, audio Ground (GND)
3 - Satellite radio tuner input, audio Ground (GND)
4 - CD changer, voltage supply, positive, terminal 30
5 - Satellite radio tuner input continuous positive, terminal 30
6 - CD changer, DATA OUT (data exchange for CD changer control from radio system to CD changer)
7 - Satellite radio tuner input, audio right
8 - CD changer, left port audio, CD/L
9 - CD changer, right port audio, CD/R
10 - CD Changer, control signal
11 - CD changer, DATA IN (data exchange for CD changer control from CD changer to radio system)
12 - CD changer, CLOCK (internal test protocol for monitoring data flow)

At the other end of the the CD/changer (iPod) cable at the media bay dock:

http://dataton.net/vw/CDchanger/VW_OEM-6disc_CD_changer-removed.jpg

1 - CD Changer - Data in
2 - CD Changer - Data clock
3 - CD Changer - Ground (GND)
4 - CD Changer - Data out
5 - Not assigned
6 - Plus connection (Terminal 30, B+)
7 - LINE OUT, right
8 - Control signal
9 - CD Changer - Ground (GND)
10 - LINE OUT, left
11 - Not assigned
12 - CD Changer illumination - Terminal 58d

The connectors are typically labeled in some way to denote the pin numbers. for exampe, for the blue conenctor attached to the head unit,
after removing the pin holder insert,
The end pins on each row / side are labeled (pin 7 and 12 shown in first pic - pins 1 and 6 shown in second)

This wire is missing(see picture 1). I have only the box from the picture 2. I want to build that cable. I want to know exactly how to connect every PIN of the cable for each side. In picture no. 3{http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/4393/p81004991.jpg}, I open the box from armrest, the box where the iPod are connected.

Are you referring to the permanently attached harness on the back of the dock?

http://dataton.net/vw/CDchanger/iPod_dock-harness.jpg

That cable is not meant to be removable,
you would have to disassemble the dock to get to it.
Since its internal, it is not documented in the repair manual. :iono:

That is the cable! Could you open a box for me to take some pics of that cable? or to measure each PIN where ere connected? I will appreciate that! The box had only 5 bolt's to open it.[When i buy the car, the seller did not give me that cable. At that time i don't see that missing piece. When i told them he wont recognise. I don't want to spend other money to buy a new one.]
