Hi everyone and welcome. I created this site because I've been a Golf enthusiast for the past few years and am finally going to buy my first Golf very soon. Since I didn't see any sites out there just for the MKV I thought I'd create one. Vwvortex is great but hopefully Golf V owners out there will also like to have a place to call their own
I've been collecting pics, videos and any other media I could get my hands out for a few months now so hopefully there's stuff here that not everyone has seen yet. Looking forward to sharing info with others and learning from other members too.
Post away everyone and I hope you make this your own Golf home :)

Hi Guys,
Just joined up. Ordered my MKV GTI a couple of weeks ago just got to wait until April for delivery:frown:
The spec....
Shadow Blue
5 Dr
Sunroof
Black Leather
18" Monza II
10 CD Multi Changer
Winter Pack
Highline Computer
Can't wait, from reading some of the other posts I think the UK specifications are slightly different from the US cars:iono:
Anyway this is going to be my company car so I better get back to work as I don't want to loose my job:wink:

I want shadow blue so badly. I hope they bring it to the US eventually. We don't have that many choices right now, but at least red, black and white all look great on this car.
JJ: great job with the site!

I just couldn't decide on the colour and then I saw this.....

These are the 18" Monza II alloys aswell, I think they are called something else in the US??
I think the blue will look really nice against the red grill trim and red disc calipers showing through the wheels:biggrin:
Same you guys don't have the same choice we get yet, its usually the other way around!!!!

Actually I think the only difference betwen the european and the US version is the ride height. The US GTI is about half an inch higher.

I just saw the new GTI on the road yesterday. I didn't even have it on my radar. I have owned 6 watercooled VWs through the years. I was so excited yesterday that I went and drove a white one today. I have motorcycles but may sell my sportbike for $ for a downpayment. I'm building a house so I want to see how much that costs before I do anything else. For now, you should all pity me while I drive my Taurus. :frown:

Greetings all... just joined up. A lot of useful info on this site. I'm ordering my United Grey GTI manual in April and i'm climbing up the walls with excitement. Why wait?... well I'm going on a ginormous 2 week trip in March to Ireland and then on a cruise of the caribbean so I'm minding my pennies for that right now. I'm also a recent convert... as of a week ago I was 98% sure I was getting a Civic Si, but I test drove the GTI last Saturday and the interior and awesome torque won me over. I look forward to talking to you all.

Just signed up today -- am looking to get a GTI somewhere around the end of the year or beginning of next year. Also considering a WRX hatch and a Civic Si, but the GTI is definitely the leader of my short list.
Currently driving a 2000 VW Passat GLS 4MOTION; also a member of the 'Tex and Club B5/Passatworld. Feel free to check out my car by clicking on my username (just above the caduceus and anchor) and selecting to view my "homepage", or by clicking on "My B5" below.

Good morning.
I don't have a GTI V yet. Emphasize the YET.
Currently I drive a '01 Honda Insight, only for the mileage as I drive about 25k/yr for my job.
Here's my list of past VW's or Audi's just to let you all know what kind of past vehicles I have had in the family -
1st - '93 VW Corrado SLC 5 spd(Dk. Purple)
2nd - '99 VW Jetta GLS 2.0L 5spd (Tornado Red) - wife's
3rd - '84 Audi 4000S 5 spd FWD
4th - '93 VW Corrado SLC 5 spd (Silver)
5th - '93 VW Corrado SLC 5spd (Red)
6th - '92 Audi 100S 5 spd (Silver)
7th - '01 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro Sport 5 spd (Silver) - wife's
8th - '95 VW Passat GLX 5 spd (Blue)
9th - '03 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro Avant Sport (Silver) - wife's
10th - '96 VW Passat GLS TDI 5spd (White)
I am now contemplating replacing the Insight with a new GTI V. Probably going with the Package 2, and 17" with the All-Season tires if I can find them. Color wise I could go White, Silver, or the Gray. Leaning towards DSG, because I like the paddle shifting idea, and it would be easier as much as I travel.

Howdy, Pete. Two comments:
- given that you're in central IL, you may be better off mounting winter tires on the OEM rims and get an aftermarket set of rims with summer tires on them -- I'm not sure how much snow you get every year, but it may overwhelm all-seaon tires. At least, that's what I'm planning for my setup, and I'm roughly at the same latitude as you (DC area);
- either way, if the dealer can't get you tires you want, maybe they'll let you drop-ship tires from Tire Rack or Tires.com and take a few bucks off the price of your car.
Good luck!

AJChenMPH, let me tell you, us Canadians know all about winter driving. The best thing to do is go with a 15" size rim with winter tires. Its cheaper and more effective than the 17" OEM. I personally have that setup with Michelin X-ICE. The traction, stopping distance and acceleration are greatly improved.

Thanks. Problem is, a 15" rim won't fit over the brakes on a GTI. I'm thinking about keeping my 16" rims from my Passat to use as snow rims, but that would mean I'd need to find rims for my Passat when I trade it in, sell it or donate it. So I may as well get 205/50-17 or 215/50-17 snow tires for the OEM rims and get some nice, lightweight 17" or 18" rims with good summer tires.

Hmm, I didn't know that they won't fit. You can get inexpensive steel rims and freeing up your passat rims.

I ordered my very first VW at the beginning of December last year. It is likely that l won't take delivery till about September. It's a long, long time.
My order is for a 5 door Tornado red GTi with DSG, Sunroof and Satnav.
The only thing l've bought for it to date are personalised number plates - MK5GTI.

Hello everyone,
I'm an avid VW fan and currently on my fourth VW - a 2002 GTI VR6. It's bone stock, but it's a lease. I wanted the MkIV R32, but missed out on it because of my current lease. Fortunately, it appears as though I won't miss out on the MkV R32 (hopefully R36), as I hear (though unconfirmed) that it will become available in the US around June or July '06.

 Hey all,
Just joined up; I just ordered mine in almost the exact same spec as DirtyPucka, but the dealer has an exclusive with ABT here in Taiwan, so I'll be getting my 5dr with 19" (haven't decided which type yet) wheels, an ABT body kit and the chip that gets it up to 240hp.
It ought to look something like this (except in blue):
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y130/bkintzley/ABTGolfVfront.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y130/bkintzley/ABTGolfVside.jpg
I'm checking into whether or not they'll carry the Rieger Kit (which would become my first choice immediately):
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y130/bkintzley/RiegerGolfV.jpg
anyways, hello, and if anyone has any idea where to go look for mods etc, holla!

We're going overseas in May, and when we return if we can scrounge up the deposit we may just place an order and join the end of a very, very long queue.

With an 11 month wait youcould save up enough for two. But then you'd have bought Australia's total allocation for the year!
Surely VW Aus could get a few GTis allocated down under. It's b*****y stinks that we have to wait 11 months.

I know what you mean, but right now we're saving for O/S so, we'll just have to wait I guess. :bonk:

+1 It's very concise and helpful.
I just joined up recently. Got my MkV GTI here in Houston on Feb 1. I'm a long time member over at Vortex and found this site through that one. I'm lovin' the the car so far. I previously had a 20th Anniversary Edition with APR and I'm just waiting until I hit 600 miles before I visit the Houston APR dealer. I've already put in VW's iPOD interface and tint. Next thing I'm deciding on are which springs to go with and I'll probably get another Neuspeed rear swaybar after I sell the 28mm one I had on my 20th.
Just glad to find such a good site for information.

Hiya,
think it's now my turn to introduce myself: I'm a German, currently living and studying in Glasgow/Scotland. Therefore big hiya to all you Scots out there :drinking: but naturally to the rest of u too.
First time that I do see a forum in english language unexceptionally dealing with the MKV (which I also usually drive, if I wouldn't live in the UK - I hate driving on the wrong side, and therefore I left my baby behind in Germany).
Keep going!
Cheers!

Hi everyone!
I currently have a Mk4 R32, but will be changing it for a GTI next year. Will probably get AMD to boost the power up to 250 hp+ - all the benefits of the R32, but less weight and better fuel economy.
Nearly got a GTI instead of the R, but I couldn't wait 9 weeks for delivery.
Keep up the good work, guys! :headbang:

joined this site because i've always wanted a GTI, i had a deposit on a 350z, but then realized that the gti would pocked me around 20'gs in savings in Canadian dollars and couldn't bring myself to waste that much cash now, so i will be hopefully test driving a GTI today and signing today, just not sure between black or white, either way the car will get modded right away,

Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to introduce myself to the group. I am a BMW guy, but what brought me to this site is "My Fast". My Fast told me "BMW is BAD, GTI is Good!".
I love those commercials! I am laughing out loud everytime I see one. In fact, I find myself watching the Olympics (Boring) just to see the My Fast Commercials.
The new GTI looks awesome and VW is coming on strong with performance and styling.
I hope VW makes the "My Fast" available for sale, as I would surely buy one.
I will be popping in from time to time, so in the meantime, watch out for the crazies and enjoy your ride!
Regards, Mike.

Hello all.
I do not have a MkV.
I really only signed up for the New commercial and FAST videos.
That said, I have owned a modded 1997 GTI VR6.
I now own a 2003 Jetta 1.8 Turbo Wagon and a 2005 VW Touareg V6.
This forum really does look good from what I have seen and looked around.
I would really love to test drive a new GTI. I sure do miss the GTI sometimes but the Touareg is a great auto, especially in the deep snow I would have been burried in, I can now just drive over/through it.

Sup yall!
Not currently a MkV owner, but I've been feening over it ever since I first saw a write up on the car nearly two years ago in Evo magazine. Definitely interested in getting a five door and I hope that I might be able to get it painted in Laser Blue; it's just a matter of if that will ruin warranty coverage on the car. I know it's not an option in the US unfortunately, but ever since I've seen pictures of them on other forums, I've become hell bent on doing everything in my power to get mine painted in a color that closely resembles or mirrors it.

Hey guys http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/5454/wave0fd.gif
Awesome forum!
I just ordered my Golf GTI today and can hardly wait till it is delivered in about 8 weeks (that is 1344 hours, but who's counting!?)
I ordered it with DSG, 3 doors and in magic black with the standard 17" rims.
For a long time I wanted to get the 18" since I think they look better, but in the end opted for standard because of the comfort. And I figured I can always replace them if I want anyway.
I test drove the Seat Leon 2.0 TFSI today just to be sure that wasn't something for me. Afterall it has the same engine and is basically the same car, but costs about 1/4 less than the Golf in my country. The interior simply wasn't GTI standard and I could hardly see anything out of neither front nor back.
Last week I test drove the Ford Focus ST, which was a mixed experience. It was in my opinion the Golf's biggest competitor. The engine had awesome power and the suspension actually felt tighter and overall a little sharper than the Golf's. The engine also sounded even better in my opinion especially when you lifted your foot off the gas pedal in high revs was borderline pornographic with pure racing sound :eyebulge:
However the interior was not nearly as good looking as the Golf's and because I am a tall bloke, I didn't sit nearly as well as in the Golf mainly because the seat wouldn't slide back long enough.
So in my opinion Golf GTI is the best overall car in this price range and especially with the DSG I am sure I will have plenty of fun with it :burnrubber:

Hey, Dr. Woo here. Been a VW/Audi enthusiast for the past few years, having owned a 2001 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro until yesterday. Sold it for a couple reasons...first, to not have to worry about shipping a car back to the States (I'm U.S. military stationed in Germany) in 8 days when I leave, and second, to have some money to purchase my first brand-new car, a 2006 VW GTI. I have $500 on a Tornado Red package 0 with the manual, and all it's waiting for is me. When I'm back home for the week of the 19th, I'll pick her up.
So right now, I'm in between cars, driving a rented Nissan Micra until the day I leave. Glad to be a part of this new community and hope to see it flourish.

Hello All
I took ownership of my GTI last Saturday. I am the first owner of the GTI in East Tennessee according to my dealership. I got a White PKG 2 with 18" alloys. This is the first German car I have ever owned. I always bought Toyota trucks or Honda cars previously.
I absolutely love the fit and finish of this automobile. It is truly a machine to be reckoned with. It takes a little getting used to the engine sounding like a sewing machine vs. Japanese cars almost dead silent operation, but, I am in love with it. :headbang:
The leather seats are to die for. The quality of the leather, the fit of the seats, the very adjustable lumbar support and the high level of adjustment of the seat heaters all come together to make a seat so comfortable and supportive I wouldn't need to stop on trips for rest breaks; just gas and go.
The layout of the dash, along with the brushed aluminum accents remind me more of a cockpit than a dash. Coming from a honda, the purple guages and the red lighting still catches me out, but, I imagine that is to keep from going night blind looking at your guages.
The engine's torque, available at such a low RPM for a four-banger, is without a doubt the biggest selling point for me. In reality, in most driving situations, you would never NEED to go beyond 3500RPM while the Honda on the other hand feels like its screaming just to get through traffic.
I purchased this car with the 6-speed manual, both because I like the feel of shifting, and because I didn't want a $30,000 car (after financing). My only dislike is that it feels a bit ambiguous about what gear you are getting into. By this I mean that the gate is a bit mushy, but I am getting used to it.
One problem I have, which will be fixed this Friday is that the remote hatch opening via the switch on the door or by the remote does not work, although it works by pressing the VW logo on the back, but I dont hold that against it as nearly all cars I have owned have had little things that needed attention from the factory.
I know the manual says to get the first oil change at 5000 miles, but I will be changing my oil at 500 miles, as IMHO 5k is a bit long to be letting those particles from breakin be roaming about in my engine. I will also get the oil changed probably at 1000 miles or 2500.
I have generally gotten over 200,000 miles out of previous cars, and I hope to get the same reliability out of this one, although most likely I will trade it in before that this time as not having a car payment actually hurt my credit score this time since I didn't have any other credit.
Many thanks to Harper VW for their help and especially my agent Bill Blair who could not have been kinder as I made numerous test drives to make up my mind. I don't know about other VW dealerships, but in the past purchasing Hondas, I was basically given the keys and told "here you go", whereas Bill took at least an hour after purchase to go over all the controls and the manual to make sure I understood everything and took time to chat with me even though people were pouring in to look at cars.
I apologize for the lengthy review, but hopefully my experience will help others who are considering the GTI or other VW products.

New member, avid Japanese vehicle owner, current SER-Spec-V pilot, possible VW MKV convert.
Greetings all.
.I test drove a New GTI MKv a few weeks ago….one hell of a nice car overall. I went to catch up with an old high school buddy, Julian, who happened to be the Finance manager at a VW dealership up in Ft Lauderdale. Figured I’d kill two birds, etc, etc… He was the first cat to introduce me to the wonderful world of mods, although we always had amusing garage conversations at 16 years old, about which rides were better the “new ( 1896) Civic SI, hatch, or the “new” Jetta GLi his old man had just bought him. Anyways, here we are, 16 years after I’d last hung out with him…and we’re back to the same conversation, while running our cars to the limit, talking smack. But I digress...
He set me up with a 6 spd (because the DSG can take a hike. I don’t care how high tech and fast it is, I’d rather eat glass and chase it with grain alcohol than have the car do the shifting. A man has to have some convictions.) , with the 18 inch w/t package and a sunroof. Being a semi-pro racer (SCCA, IM (?) and real close to becoming a CART driver until marriage intervened), and lifelong VW fanatic, Julian threw the thing around through a little back road “course” he’d set up and I must say, I was duly impressed. The car handled corners and turns that would have seen the Spec, and us, owned by the rear beam axle. MY perceptions, after I took over:
HANDLING: A bit more body roll than I might like, but grip for days on end. Especially when tossing it through some right/left/right transitions, (like, from the street, to the dealership access road) a stretch that should have been taken at oh…15 MPH, which Julian took at speeds closer to 40, something I, not being familiar with that car, chose not to attempt. On 15 mph, 45 degree turns on the VERY empty access road, which we both took at about 60, the car seemed to run on a set of rails that magically appeared from the ground. (A little side note: the ESP can be switched off completely via a console switch. I’m not sure if it kicks back in automatically, but we were able to act the damn fool with it off, and I felt no intrusion from it, as I did when we ran with it on. What IS interesting is the EDL feature: apparently, an Electronic Differential Lock that functions similarly to an LSD…though VW doesn’t push it in marketing. I believe it switches off with the ESP, but I’m not too sure. end of note.)
Braking is strong and swift. Verdict….I think the Spec powers out of corners better, due to the helical LSD, but the GTI owns in overall handling, steering feel, and driver confidence.
POWER: Well…it’s a 200 hp/207 lb/ft FSI turbocharged engine. That’s been suspected (and now being confirmed on VW forums members’ dyno results) as being underrated by as much as 25 bhp. It’s really, really quick. The extra 330 lbs it has over MKIV kinda prevented it from the major kick in the arse that I had expected, but it also delivers its power in a very linear, lag free fashion…it just builds and builds to ludicrous speeds…with a right lovely exhaust note. What’s CRAZY is the ability to start the car, sink the clutch…and take off without giving it ANY gas whatsoever…just let ‘er out, and off she rolls…you can start from a roll in 4th gear..roll on the throttle, and be up to speed with no bog or shudder….a testament to damn near full torque available at 1500 rpms.
Verdict….still a winner, although the added heft has a negative effect.
INTERIOR FIT/FINISH. Carrying on the VW tradition, the car means business. Driving business. Ain’t nothing extraneous, it’s all about a DRIVER ORIENTED ENVIRONMENT, which works for me. The tach is weird; instead of single digits, it’s numbered in tens, with makes it look…a lot like the speedo, which can be a little off-putting first time out. Also a LOT more hard plastic than I expected, some in places that made sense (grab handles) other where aesthetically I thought did not belong…( upper door panels, on the dash, where an errant knee may bump into it…the entire center console.) Also, not much in the way of storage space. I don’t carry much, but I’m not a card carrying member of the IPOD generation yet, and I do lug around quite a few CD cases, so I would have liked to see some depth to the center arm rest pocket. Yes, there are cup holders. Somewhere. I didn’t give enough of a damn to look. But truthfully, the interior is overall ridiculously upscale and well put together. One thing I found funny…the (standard) Recaro seats with the original GTI plaid seemed mouse-furry, while the headliner material was a similar fabric/pattern to the Spec’s back seats. Yeah…weird.
Exterior. IMHO, the perfect evolution of the hot hatch. I really like it, especially the corp. VW front end with the blacked out grille, and the non painted bumpers, which I think look great on the White and Red GTI’s…not so much on the Silver and United Grays, and of course, are utterly unnoticeable in Black. What WAS noticeable…the plethora of drivers who damn near twisted their heads off trying to get a look at the car in traffic…it was pretty crazy. Men and women…(LOTS of really hot women) were checking us out in this puppy (Reflex Silver, btw) which for a Spec driver is really unusual. One dude at a light, in his brand new BMW 330I was staring at the GTI for so long, he almost missed his turn light. And did I mention the chick love? THAT was different…but it wasn’t all that bad
Over all…I thought it was a pretty wicked ride. MSRP as I had it was $23,990. I left with an unsolicited “just-in case” offer of….substantially less than that. Did I throw caution to the wind and roll out with it? No, I’m a bit more practical than that. Although VW has switched parts vendors to improve build quality and reduce its previous atrocious reliability record…it still has a long way to go to recoup the losses of older and potential new customers. But it’s still on my mind 3 weeks later…and I’ve been perusing the European forums, and US GLI/Jetta forums as well, and things seem to be running right….SO far. And I’d probably take a small loss on the Spec…which ultimately, I don’t really give a damn about, as I earn more than enough to NOT give a damn about it having any effect on my financial bottom line whatsoever. So I’m still rolling in the old 04 Spec V….but I’m still smiling about my GTI experience…and the more I think about it, the bigger the smile gets. And like Julian said as I left. …"don’t worry too much about it….your deal stands, and we’ve got plenty.” So I'm going to give it a couple of more runs, with the significant other this time, to see if maybe she'll fall for it as well, continue to monitor these forums ( a GREAT source of info, once one has sorted through all the extraneous stuff), to see about any major reliability and service issues, and see where that leave my mindset come June-ish.
And that, as they say...is that.

Howdy! I don't own one (yet!) and have never owned a VW. I did however make the mistake of test driving the MkV GTI the other day at lunch. I then got back in my 97 Neon sport sedan feeling quite underequipped. It is kind of my beater until I decide what to get as my wife just went back to work after being a full time stay at home mother for the last 2.5 years. I initially planned on getting a Civic Si sedan this fall until I test drove this unbelievable GTI. I have wanted one off and on since before we were married (1994). I'm kind of glad she has emphatically said "no" as I may stand a chance on this one.

I'm a 2 time and soon to be 3 time VW owner.
I've had a VR6 Jetta and a 24 valve Mk4 GTI. Right now I drive a Pontiac GTO but I'm sold on the new GTI with dsg. The fiance says any color as long as it's united gray with heated seats...
The dark blue is also really sharp, particularly with the red grill. I think our American version looks awkward with the 17's though, with the SUV suspension. I wonder what the actual story with that is.
This is a really nice website.
I like this site in my top 3, out of all 10 or so VW forums i visit. The positive is not too many sub-forums. Keep it nice and simple. Vortex is way too messy.

My wife wasn't too sure about the car but she wanted me to get rid of my civic. After driving the car her response was "who is gonna get a ticket first and I get to drive it too."

I am absolutely new to the VW world. I was once a Honda type into the whole
VTEC thing. Then I moved to BMW, where I own an E36 M3 coupe, and I still do
own it. But I have to say, I am so intrigued by the MkV GTI I am considering getting it
soon. I just wanted to say hey and wish me luck in getting it.
Anyone have it as a daily beater right now?

I currently own a 2004 Jetta TDI-PD. It is my 5th VW.
1. 87 GTI
2. 91 Golf
3. 86 GTI
4. 97 Jetta GLX VR6
5. 04 Jetta TDI-PD
I am definately a HUGE VW fan (not a fan of the Japanese cars, they are generally fine cars, but lacking that 'Fun to Drive' factor - big time:thumbdown: ). While I love the TDI torque and exceptional fuel economy, the turbo exploded and destroyed the engine. Fortunately, the 5 digit repair bill was on VW, but who knows if it will happen again, and if it does, it will be on my dime, which is why I am looking to get out of the TDI and into a 2.0T. So far, I have not heard any horror stories about 1.8T or 2.0T turbo failures that did NOT involve lack of maintanance (i.e. sludge buildup caused by improper oil change interval starving the turbo).
I know for sure that I want to get the DSG with Launch control, but I am still trying to decide between the 5-door GTI and the Jetta GLI. My first car was an Mk II GTI which was a blast to drive. Right now, I am leaning toward the GTI 5-door in either Reflex or United with DSG and Launch Control. This forum has been incredibly informative for me. Thanks.

I also own a 2000 Acura Integra Type R , which I'll probably turn into a circuit car very soon, and this will also give me some fun time at the track in addition to improving my driving skills :burnrubber: I spent loads of money on the R, turbocharging the engine and all, and then decided that spending all this money is just getting out of hand and not worth it, so a stock engine was put in place

Hello all, great site you've got here. I became hooked on the MkV a few weeks ago when I had my 98 GTI in to the dealer, and have spent those weeks trying to convince my better half that this is the car we need. Fate made the final decision as I rolled and totaled my 98 last sunday. Though it was a sad, sad day to put my companion of eight years down, I'm happy to say that I'm picking up my United Grey pkg1 on Tuesday!

Hey wats goin on guys, i drive an 04' GTI that is dark grey.....5speed, beautiful car the turbo kicking in is like music to my ears, but i just drove the 06 GTI and the turbo on the 06 has such a better responce than the 1.8t engine its amazing, i heard the 06 in dsg with the paddle shift is faster than the 6spd but i would perfer the 6spd, i am thinking of trading in my 04 for the 06 probably in white or black, if any one has an 06 and can give me a first hand experience i would appriciate it:w00t:

Hi all,
I have just joined, from the UK, I haven't yet purchased a GTI. I currently own a 2003 Audi TT 3.2 DSG Coupe, which I need to change for something with practical rear seating.
I recently had an Audi A3 2.0T as a courtesy car, very impressed with improvements over the old 1.8T VAG engine (which seemed to have lots of lag). Not really into the styling of the A3, so starting to think the GTI is the natural choice.
I will probably just be lurking for a while, while I decide if this marque is for me...

Hello!
I just wanted to introduce myself. I've owned several German cars in my 38 years of life. I started with (and don't laugh) a 1976 porsche 914 2.0 from which I went to a 1981 924 turbo. In 1986 I purchased a 1985 BMW 325e and then a 1992 325i (at this point my wife had traded in her 89 slaab 900 for a 92 slaab 900 [what was the point?!!!]). 1995 was a big year as my younger sister parked her 1980 scirocco in my drive and left it there! My wife purchased a 1995 jetta 3 GLS that year and we bought a mazda miata.
1999 we purchased a new BMW 323i and a mark 4 gti vr6 (we had a lot of problems with that one.) In 2002 we leased a BMW x5 and I purchased a Subaru WRX (this one too was not so good, it spent a lot of time at the dealer) and a 1989 Porsche 951 Turbo S that was owned by or local Porsche (and BMW and Subaru and Mitsubishi) dealer. In 2003 I purchased a 2003 jazz blue 20AE GTI (because the r32 wasn't available and VW wouldn't confirm anything!), this was by far the worst in reliability but ranked very high on the fun to drive list! I did sell this car after 6 mos of ownership however because of quality issues (paint peeling off the front valance, a drivers window and switch that had been replaced twice (each of them, the window would just fall into the door [because of the regulator] and the switch would stick, a ABS light that would trip for no reason etc. etc. etc.)
That is when I purchased the EVO. This car has been great and I will most likely keep it even after I buy an R32.
Anyway, as you can tell I like cars, fun cars to be exact. Thanks for taking the time and thanks for the great site!

Hello everyone, this is my first time posting on this site and it is deffinately the coolest I've encountered so far. I share our passion for the distinctly European feel of Golfs and appreciate the culture of the whole VW scene. My first real car was a 1.8T Passat and I've owned VW ever since. I traded the Passat for an 03' VR6 GTI and fell in love with it's linear torque and throatier growl. Drove the heck out of that car then bought a used R32 with 27,000 mi. and a few mods. It came with H&R springs, CCP rear control arms, VF pendulum mount, flapper mod, and P-Flow intake. I switched out the P-Flow for a K&N short ram, then added a GIAC chip, 22 mm. Neuspeed rear sway, and re-attached the flapper due to loss of low end torque( although sound was killer and still is after 3500 rpms). I love my car but the payments are steep and I could make a little $ if I sell now before it depreciates due to introduction of MK5. I'm considering buying a basemodel Black Magic MK5 GTI for invoice and modding it. Din't like the look at first but the test drive was a blast and the "Sportec" Black Magic photo inspired me to create my own asthetic. My buddy at E-Motion Autowerks here in Las Vegas recently installed chip and intake on a MK5 with Monoblock wheels and said it shreds. He's a no b.s. kind of guy and altghough the MK5 GTI is not 4-motion, the 2.0T is very capable. Hard to part with my R though. I think the communication on this site is great, and the pics and video are much appreciated. Rock on.

Just found this site.
Have been a serious VW/Audi enthusiast since long ago (I'm 47). I started out Aircooled and bought my 1st Watercooler my '83 GTI and still have it. It has a Techtonics 2.0 liter with a 4.25 VW Motorsport ring/pinion and limited slip diff. Lots more done, too much to list here.
Was stripped down and fully repainted at a local street rod shop ($3,000 repaint) and added clear coat to it as well.
I also own a modded '98.5 Audi A4 1.8t, 5-speed, Quattro, factory sport suspension and a list to big to carry on about.
I have modded and raced many other cars as well. None have given me the pleasure as the VAG cars have.
I am in close contact with my old buds at Techtonics Tuning. They say the GIAC chip and their exhaust system for the new cars is turning over 265HP.
Going for a 5-door with DSG eventually.

I believe you are referring to the VAG unit. YOU can't adjust HP & Torque.
Just curious why'd you leave the Subie?

the reason why I traded my o5 STi for the 06 GTi, is because I drive an hour to school and gas was just killing me. had this expensive lawn pretty that I hardly could drive. the commericals for the Gti are very funny also!:burnrubber:
Hello all. I'm considering a 4 door GTi when they hit the US this summer. I've driven the 2 door twice now and love it. Unfortunately my dealer is telling me that I should expect to pay MSRP for the 4 door due to low supply. What does everyone think? I've never paid MSRP for anything!
thanks

High pressure sales. Wait till they get here and visit the internet and see what everyone else is getting for them. If the dealer is having a bad day, week or month they will sell it to you.
Do your home work and then shove it in their face.
BTW, I never paid MSRP either.

Sorry you had to get rid of it. They are fun cars. Now you'll even have more fun and save gas too! Welcome to the VAG (Volkswagen/Audi/Group) Family.

been lurking around for a while now. one of the v few non-gti drivers on this site. mind u the price i paid for this car (bottom range) would get me a GTI if i lived in the states. u americans are so lucky!
hoping to buy one in a couple of years time, assuming that the Mk6 looks decent enough.

Hey Everyone. I just wanted to say hello and that it was a requirement for me to join this board on the day I brought home my new baby.
A 2006 MkV Black Magic Pearl with Package 1 and Monster Mats.
I'm sure she will grow up quick. I received her with only 11 miles on her. She's a fast one already. I can't wait until she grows up so I can see her full potential. I'll take pics soon.

Greetings JJ-R32,
This is a great site. I've been a 'texter for quite some time (since I got my R32 in March 2004). Just found this site a few days ago. I drove a GTI-DSG a couple of weeks ago just to see what the deal was with the DSG box. I liked the DSG as well as the whole GTI package so much that I ended up trading my R32 in on a GTI with DSG, #2/XM and 18's all wrapped in United Gray. Car is due in sometime in April.
I've been a life long German car fan. My usual Marque has been BMW. I currently have a 1995 M3 that a bought new. That's the longest I've ever kept a car. Still enjoy it though.
This site can only get better as more MKV owners join in. Anyway just wanted to say I'm glad to be aboard!

Hi folks.
First post here. Name is Lane. Picked up my white MKV DSG last weekend.
Its a daily driver and will see plenty of miles. I have to drive a lot for work and i think i may even like my job more now that i can drive the MKV all the time :)
I'm not new to fast. Been a long time drag racer. One of my other cars is legal 9 second drag radial turbo mustang. Its fun but i think i'll be spending more fun car time with the GTI :).

I'm a bit concerned.
Your website only shows Japanese cars. No site of VAG cars!
I know myself that I'd like to deal with a business that deals primarilly in VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) vehicles. There are several VAG parts places (OEM/Performance) in Seattle as well as elsewhere in the U.S. and Canada.

Hello
I have been looking for a fun commuter car and the GTI seems great. Plan to drive one today. I have a couple of questions and any help would be appreciated.
I drive about 85 miles a day mainly highway Rt 95 (North of Boston) and like to average 80+ mph, do you think the GTI is comfortable and at ease with with this type of drive.
VW has been getting bad press for reliability the recent years, has any one encountered problems with their GTI.
Thanks in advance for helping me out. I gave up a BMW 540/6 last year and I miss the German drive so am hoping the GTI is a good fit.

I would love to take that kind of commute in a GTI. I think you'd have a blast and be at one with the road for approximately 85 miles. No problems with mine yet.

when i had my Mini Cooper S i bought a catback system from Jonathan at WorldOnePerformance, he was great, shipped on time, good prices, actually called me the day i got my package before it arrived to remind me that the delivery was scheduled for that day, crazy awesome super service from them. I was impressed, they need to get into VW market as quick as possible

Hi everyone!
Great site - really enjoyed looking through while making my choices!
So I've finally decided to go for a Tornado Red GTI, 2 doors, up here in Montreal. I'm gonna sign everything early next week, and get my delivery date.
I decided against the leather, just because I think the plaid cloth looks so cool! I just wish the door insterts could be ordered in leather. Im thinking Manual tranny - although the DSG is tempting!
