Hello all!

My name's Robert. I've currently got four Volkswagens in the stable. From a pair of Eurovans (a '93 CL with VW's 2.5 liter version of Audi's 10V in-line-5, and a '99 GLS with the 12V VR6), to a MkIV '00 Golf GLS TDI and a MkV '08 GTI DSG. Needless to say, I'm pretty seriously into VWs...

Cheers

welcome, where are you at in ohio?

Between Dayton and Cincinnati, but I also spend as much time as I can on the two-lanes of NKY.

The roads don't really get interesting until the center lines disappear. That's when I break out the :paddle: for the ricers, on two wheels or four...

Hi from spblat the noob. Test drove my first GTI a couple weeks ago. It was also my first time behind the wheel of any turbo hot hatch. Naturally, I haven't been able to think of anything but getting rid of my wife's Odyssey, giving her the 4Runner and zipping around PDX in a 2009 GTI with a sunroof and 18" huffs. Gonna try to make my move in the next few months. See you around!

I'm a newbie to this site. Always looking for interesting facts and help for my cars.

My car history:
1. Toyota Celica LT1600 Red (late 70's FM)
2. Ford Laser Sport in Burnt Umber (early 80s FM)
3. Nissan NX Coupe Red 1992 (still got it, the most punchy and fun car for under 20k 10 years ago)
4. Nissan 200SX S15 1999 Black (185KW import) great car but no head height and was jinxed for accidents.
5. Jeep Wrangler Renegade 2006 (fun car but a barge for fuel and no storage)
6. VW Golf MkV 2.0L TDI Black Magic 2005. My first European car and loving it after only 3 days. Everything is designed how it should be.
7. Porsche 993 targa (haven't got it yet, but aiming for August 21 2010).

I've been a Porsche fanatic since touring with the Carrera Cup i the 80s (as a teenager). Now I live and breath Porsche, and will probably have to get my grin surgically removed from ears when i finally get my first 911.

Love to talk cars and Porsche and Germany with anybody who is interested.

I've been to the Porsche and Merc factories on Stuttgart.

I'm a self-employed graphic designer and part-time property investor. www.dandesign.com.au

No, I'm not loaded! Just gathering leverage for the 911!

anyway, enuf ramble.

cheers, dan.

Hi everyone,

I live in the Netherlands and i'm just like you all crazy about VW GOLF.

My first car was a Golf MK II GTI G60 1991 after a accident i bought another and that was 14 years a go, and i still have it.

I have also now for 6 years a GOLF MK I 1977 and

VW Bora Variant TDI Highline 130HP ( in the USA as JETTA) this car i own now for 1 year.

And the best of all!!!!

Since 1 week I own a GOLF MKV R32 from the USA 1015/5000 in the color white.
I waited for 6 weeks for the transportation and it was worth it.

Now i must wait for 5 weeks for registration :-)

Hello All,
I recently got my own 2009 BMM 4dr DSG GTi. Although I plan on using this car as my daily driver, its very very tempting to add some stuff to it. I will try to contain myself but I have a funny feeling i won't be able to. My project car is a 2001 Lexus IS300 which is my baby. I will be posting pic's soon of both of them and specs etc...

Thanks all and I look forward to becoming a member of this large community just as I am with My IS300 Community.

Hello, my name's Jeroen (Sydney, Australia) and I'm the proud owner of a new MY09 United Grey Golf GTI with DSG and leather. Bought it on wednesday morning and drove it from the dealer on friday morning. A couple of Mk6 Golfs were coming off the truck as I walked in, got a nice deal. :-)

History:
94? Red Holden Barina 4cyl 1.2l manual (vowed I would never drive such a slow car again)
97 Blue Honda Integra VTiR
2000 some lease Peugeot 306s (GTi6s and Styles)
2001 Blue Peugeot 206 GTi
2009 United Grey VW Golf GTI

Never thought I would buy a Golf, thought I would stick with Pugs 'forever'.

Almost bought a Mazda 3 MPS (tuesday) after a test drive (soooo powerful! but a bit of a brute), just to make sure I took another test drive in a Golf GTI on the very next day and bought it straight after the drive!

http://www.happymakinggames.com/side-driver-front-too-cropped-wrong-lens.jpg

Only 170Kms so far, but they were fun kilometers! It's so easy to slide :-)

Hello everybody.

Just bought a new GTI 2009 United Grey, manual transmission. Taking delivery Tuesday.

Can't wait.

I was going to buy a Rabbit with the sport package but when I tried the GTI, I was hooked.

Anyway, I have owned 10 VW products before, mixture of Jetta, Rabbit and Golfs. Each time it was a delight to drive these cars.

Hi everyone,

Just purchased a new black 09 6spd GTI, with only 18 miles on it since two weeks ago. Now I have about 330 miles, I start to drive a little harder in 3rd gear to pump the rpm to 4,000, it's fun little car! Then the dealer told me not to drive hard until the engine reaches to 1,000 miles (break-in period).

Great site--Glad to be a member. Came out of a "modified" 2000 Volvo S40. Purchased a 2008 R32, blue, #4016, certified used from VW dealer in Naples, FL as researched on AutoTrader. Took delivery on 2/24/2009 after flying into Ft. Myers from Canton,OH.

Drove the 1600 miles back into Ohio, and had the time to visit three of my sons of six enroute. Vehicle was used by VW as corporate car, and had only 6626 miles on it. Certification starts from 7/08. Wanted AWD and stability control, which the S40 was lacking, for the "safety margin" of my driving age--77.

Looking forward to some informative posts from you'all!

What up!

I picked up my 2006 GTI last night from the dealership. It's a Reflex Silver, DSG, and Package 2 with about miles 27000. I took it for the first real drive this morning to work. I just traded in a stage I 2000 S4 with ton of miles. The GTI felt great and has plenty of power. It was nice having a high performance sedan but it was killing me on maintenance. I looking forward to keeping this car for a long time.

Also great site! I used this webpage to do all my research for buying my GTI.

Hey everyone, new VW owner here in Nashville, TN. I'm switching from a predominantly Chrysler background.
Just got an 08 GTI, Grey, with about 2,600 mi on it. Already have it up to 4,000 in just under a month (can only drive when I'm not traveling for work!). Looking forward to figuring out how to stick a Mac Mini in the car and pairing it with a touch screen LCD while keeping it separate from the stereo. Also this summer I'd love to meet up with other VW owners in the area and talk cars.

1. 1980 Rabbit Convertible w/ 1987 Scirocco 16V engine, HOR springs, KYB shocks, Eurotech and Neuspeed over and under stressbars and swaybars, short shifter, Techtonics exhaust, K&N airfilter.

2. 1992 Cabriolet Carat. Stock except for Neuspeed springs, Bilstein shocks, K&N airfilter short shifter and Techtonics cat back exhaust.

3. 2008 R32. I haven't done anything to it other than a K&N airfilter.

4. 1975 Datsun 280Z. It's not bad in a straight line.

All I can say is keep driving your VWs hard, they like it like that.

Hi,

Just to introduce myself, I am old enough to remember the first golf and was always rather jealous of a mate of mine that had one of the original GTi's. However, I finally saw the light having taken a test drive of a R32 with DSG, which was shear pleasure to drive compared with the BMW M3 which was my ride at that time. For those interested, the M3 engine is a delight but the SMG gearbox a total nightmare and unreliable to boot, enough said.

Have had the R32 for 20 months and love it although the power is down on expectations but the DSG and AWD go along way to make up for this. I have had a remap from DMS which ups the power to 200Kw and the Haldex controller upgrade which activates the AWD sooner than standard. Still would like more power but cannot justify the cost of solutions from HPA or Rotrex as import taxes to Australia and the poor exchange rate of our dollar are a killer.

Enjoying the forums and keep up the good work,

Ricardo, Gold Coast Australia.

Hi,

Taking delivery of an 06 GTI (certified pre-owned w/32K on the odo) tomorrow morning. This will be my 2nd 2.0l turbo car. My other is a 02 wrx wagon, cobb stage 2, alas it's off the road with zero compression in #4 cyl and low compression on the others. My hope is to source parts for the rex over the summer and have it back on the road by winter so I can take my new FWD baby off the road. :happyanim:

I feel I sort of lucked out with the 06 in the fastest color! It's white.
Was at the VW dealer to test drive the TDI Jetta :iono: and saw the MkV and drove that  and got back and said "let's talk numbers".

First mod are these color matched side markers right here, followed by an apr flash (on sale w00t!) from there who knows... like the rex I'll say I'm not planning to do much but... as was the case on that (dp, up, sti can, sti pinks, kb drop links, sedan sway bar, slotted rotors, etc) once bitten :headbang: ah, speaking of head banging, I gotta sort out how I'm going to pipe the music from my iPhone into the stereo... ack!

All from here for now... thanks for your site/forum I've been diving in and find it's a bit nicer laid out then the vortex which I'll continue to read but prob won't sub.

Easy!

 Hello!

My name is Tony and I am from Michigan and soon to be a GTI owner. As a new VW owner and I also new to getting this brand of car and getting a foreign car.

I see a lot of postings here and much of them I clearly don't understand - the techincal words, etc - please forgive me.

Is there somewhere here where I can browse to understand the short word definitions?

Many Thanks!

PS: Are most of you generally happy with your GTIs?

Tony

hey guys,

just picked up a new gti from the dealer last week. Had an e46m3 and wanted something close but more cost effective for the track. I think this is going to be a fun little car.

Already added the skoda bluetooth mod and a homelink\auto dim rear view mirror and vag-com. and the thing still has paper plate. The DIYs are great and have already helps me alot. can't wait to do some more to make it my own.

Oh yeah, White 4door with DSG and Nav in Dallas, Tx.

yeah, the e46m3 was going out of warranty. the thing only had 27,000miles on it but I would say a good 15,000 was track miles and to and from the track. so time to give it up. and it was just too expensive to run. at $2700/set of tires and usually went through 2 sets a year, it did not leave much room of upgrades and such.

Hey everyone another Canadian here,

I have been lurking here for a while, and I think this place is great.

My wife and I decided to get rid of our 2000 A6 2.7T last month after one of the turbo's failed  , resulting in a $9,500 repair (almost what the car is worth). We liked the car, but it was costing us at least $1,500 a year in repairs (we bought it used without warranty). The dealer we went with gave us $3,000 for the car and gave us a pretty good deal on our new ride. We went with the 2009 GTI 5 door in CW with the DSG, leather and 18's. I am so excited to get the car after work, we have been waiting for over three weeks for the car to arrive from Halifax. Tint and 3M are already on, and only mods I am thinking about right now are getting rid of those orange side markers, and maybe coils.

Thanks,

Greg

I'm probably a bit older than most posters here, but I've always been fascinated by cars. I have owned almost everything from a Mini Traveller, to a Mk 9 Jag. The Golf Plust 2.0 TDi was bought because my Mother-in-law came to live with us (how lucky am I) and we needed something big enough for her to get in and out of. The performance, for a diesel, is terrific and of course the economy helps.

Whats up everyone. My names Greg and l live in Crestview Florida. I just bought a 2009 GTI a couple days ago. This is my first experence with VW. I've been an avid DSM guy but wanted something different. All i want to do to her so far is an exhaust, boost and oil pressure gauge. I have no idea whats best or where to find anything, so any and all info would be great.

Just registered here. My neighbor told me about the site. He drives a '07 GTI. I currently drive a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT (sportronic, modded), but after almost 10 years of owning that, I want a change. I am seriously considering the '09 GTI. Am going to local dealership tomorrow to look at them and maybe test drive one. Ive done a fair amount of research so far on them but want to see them in person. My neighbor tells me he loves his and has no complaints whatsoever yet. I think he told me he is a Stage 3 on his.

My Eclipse is modded mostly with show type stuff-was in local car shows a few years back. No real performance mods. If I get a GTI or my next car whatever it will be, I do not intend on modding it much, at least not nearly as much as my Eclipse over the years. I say that now but Im sure that probably will change. If I get a GTI, I will be on here more and will be looking through posts for help, advice, etc (and yes, I know about the SEARCH). Ive been on a national Eclipse website for years, so am very familiar with the rules :)

Just wanted to introduce my self and hopefully will be an official member of the GTI family as well in the near future. If anyone wishes to msg me online or chat, or anything, hit me up. I have aim, yahoo messenger and msn/windows live messenger. I have pics of my Eclipse on my myspace page too.

This looks like a good VW Golf/Rabbit site that I have been looking for....

Always have been a Rabbit fan...my dad is the original owner of a 1980 Caddy that is completely original other than the snowflake GTI wheels. It's a hot red and looks perfect....everyone wants to buy it from him

I've been the proud owner of a couple rabbits....a 1980 diesel that after 370,000 odd miles it blew.......body was in bad shape so it went to junkyard. I owned a 1981 that I put a 16V GTI motor in............it was a blast to drive...Had some fuel delivery issues, I got feed up and sold it for almost triple what I had in it. I really miss that rabbit.....I now have a 98 Cabrio that is really alot of fun to drive.....I am planning on getting my wife a 4 door Golf next year, then I am back looking for a project 80's Rabbit...

Sure glad to find this forum and looking forward to participating..

I've always loved German cars, and have had an 82 Scirocco, 87 Jetta Gli, 95 Golfsport (had a GT badge on it, probably meant for a diffferent country), and a 01.5 Passat GLX 4-Motion (mainly out of motion)....in addition to a 91 BMW 535, 98 MBZ C (Sport Package), and the 2 currently besides my R, a 03 MBZ C240 4-Matic (AWD), and an 06 Porsche Boxster S (GT Silver/Cocoa Brown)....the only German car I havn't had I guesss is an Audi, so maybe down the road......

Hi everyone and welcome. I created this site because I've been a Golf enthusiast for the past few years and am finally going to buy my first Golf very soon. Since I didn't see any sites out there just for the MKV I thought I'd create one. Vwvortex is great but hopefully Golf V owners out there will also like to have a place to call their own

I've been collecting pics, videos and any other media I could get my hands out for a few months now so hopefully there's stuff here that not everyone has seen yet. Looking forward to sharing info with others and learning from other members too.

Post away everyone and I hope you make this your own Golf home :)

I'm Ash. I was about to go buy a Rabbit but my dad offered me a deal; I lose 115 lbs, he buys me a GTI or a Mazdaspeed3 - i like the look of the GTI better so I'll have that... eventually.

So yea, just gonna hang out till i get mine (20 pounds down already) . Love the cars.

Hey,

Very cool site, thanks for creating it!
I'm a huge enthusiast of the GTI. I currently drive a red Mercedes C230 sportscoupe, and don't think of getting rid of it, but I bought a 5 door Tornado Red Manual GTI, which turned out to have had hail damage, so I had to cancel the purchase. I asked for another one but seems like they are having a hard time to find the specific model and options for the same price. Might go into legal issues, aghh...

Anyway, can't wait to have my GTI and enjoy. In the meantime it's good to have this forum. Thanks again!

Hey guys,

Just a small note to say hi.

Been lurking around this forum for a little while now, and my goodness what a place. The scale is just amazing. some awesome rides and discussions here. The amount of knowledge and advice is vast, so I thought I might as well give something back and contribute for some of the ideas and knowledge I have taken.

I’m based out in little sunny south Africa and part of a similar type of thing out this side of the world. I am one of the committee memebers for the VW club of SA. something similar to this but a lot smaller. We have a club event every month with our biggest event coming up shortly called Dubrun. something similar to what I think is called your H2O??basically a bunch of dubs on a road trip to Durban to hook up with the guys down there. We have around 180 paid up members with around 300- 400 regular forum users. Nothing nearly like this place :eyebulge:

Will get some pics of my ride up once im home, stupid work has blocked every possible image hosting site in the universe.

Anyways, awesome site and looking forward to sharing a passion of VW with you.

Cheers
T

Hey folks,

Just picked up a 2009 Tornado Red GTI 4-door with the DSG, sunroof and 18" wheels. Really luvin' it, especially how it corners like it's on rails.

I'm coming from a 04 Corolla which had to go because my wife and I needed to transport our 2-year-old to daycare in something a bit safer (i.e. airbags, stability control, etc). The car seat fits just fine in the center-back-seat, btw - though it took me a while to figure out that center seat's headest doesn't really elevate, despite the little release switch.

Also, I needed to get back into a "fun" commuter car again - before I "inherited" the wife's Corolla, I had a 3-series and Miata, both manuals.

This site seems like a good mix of enthusiasm and practicality. I'm looking forward to participating.

Thanks,
John

Finally pulled the trigger on a 2.0T powered vee-dub. Although sadly it isn't the GTI I originally had my heart set on. Instead I wound up falling for an '09 Jetta SportWagen SEL. Has the muda-hucking huge glass roof and a bunch of other toys.

Keys should be in hand by sunset on Friday.

Wanted to thank folks on this forum for the info... and entertainment. Hopefully Jetta owners are welcome as well.

Newbi from Miami checking in.

Hope to get a new MkV GTi in the next week or so. I am looking for a tornado red 4 dr with leather if anyone knows where one is at. Not many red ones in Miami.

I am a daily motorcycle rider and alternate between my buell xb12x and my ducati hypermotard but I am looking forward to the comfort of a nice quiet air conditioned MkV, as it is starting to get pretty hot inside the helmet.

Since the wife took over my 99 F150 I have had to resort to driving the 96 svt cobra as a bad weather vehicle and although it is way fast, it's just not very comfortable in traffic.

I have been lurking here the past few weeks and have learned a lot from this forum. It came down to deciding between the GTi vs. Mazda speed 3 and after driving the GTi the Ms3 felt soo....cheap. But you guys already knew that.:headbang:

Anyways....just checking in and great site btw.

Hello all !

I've just bought an 09 GTI in Candy White. Picking it up tomorrow afternoon or Saturday Morning from Momentum VW here in Houston. I drove the DSG and 6M last Saturday and it was love at first drive. This is my first reasonable daily driver, and my first new vehicle ever.

I'm super excited about it. I manage a company that is in the HotRod business and this was the best out of the box vehicle that I will enjoy driving without really modifying it.

I'm excited to get a little more educated about these cars and see what owning one is all about.

Just bought my first GTI last weekend and thought I'd join up. My old car was a 2002 Mazda Protege5, which I bought as a prior salvage and did pretty much all the work on keeping it going. It was a great car - awesome handling - but I figured I'd been too responsible in my life up to this point, and deserved a treat. I had test driven a new 2009 Rabbit [mmm, fold-flat front], Honda Fit, Elantra Touring, Mazda3, and so on, but this was the car that I really felt awesome in.

So, I got a 2008 Volkswagen GTI, red, 4dr, with DSG. It had a hair under 23k miles (since it was first purchased in 03/2007), and I got it for $18,495 @ 6.7% (it wasn't "Pre-Loved").

Seemed like a fantastic deal, and I couldn't pass it by. I suspect that it was mispriced on the website - the sticker price was $21,495, but whatever - they honored the internet price. Considering that they had a 2007 GTI, with 3k more miles, for only $1k less, seems pretty likely. Dunno! In any case, been driving it around like a maniac the last few days, with a huge grin on my face. GTIGTIGTIGTIGTIGTGTITIGTTGIGIGIGTTI weeeeeeeee!

Wow - that's a lot of car for a 16 year old! Hope you've got full coverage on the insurance; I had one major accident and several minor fender bumps between 16 and 23ish. I can't imagine the groaning from my insurance company if I had owned an R32. Congratulations. :)

You're not kidding about it being a lot of car! Heck, I'm 41 and an R32 would be a lot of car for me!

My car when I was 16 was a 69 Bug with the dreaded automatic stickshift. It was...well...I'll be nice and say that it was not exactly the quickest car I've ever driven. But it got me where I needed to go until the transmission ate itself for lunch.

whats good everyone.. im a 16 year old who is getting his first car. the mk5 r32. And im just wondering if i should e aware of any problems... my family is fed up of engine failure. My brother has a 07 sti with built motor and spends more time in the shop then the street. But i am rly excited to hit the streets in my new mk5 .:r32 much love PC

I would think engine failure would be the least of your problems. I had an '85 jetta with at least a quarter million miles, and ultimately the engine outlasted the rest of the car. Still running when I sold it.

That's a very nice first car, and you're very privileged to get something like that at 16. I bought my first car (89 RX-7) with a thousand dollars of my own money just after I turned 17, and it got me into plenty of trouble.

I'm new here too. The wife got a shiny new Rabbit, and I still have all my tools from working on my Mk1s, so it's apparently time to turn it into a fire-breathing autobahn-stormer. We put some nice wheels on it, at which point I realized the stock ride height on the Rabbit is just absurd, and now there's really nothing for it: it's going to have to be lowered. Oh, and I'm sure I won't be able to resist putting an intake on, and chipping it, and oh god this can only end in disaster...

Oh well.

Hey all.

I have just bought my first GTI this week. Its a 2009 w/ DSG, 18" Wheel package, sunroof and a couple other odds and ends. I haven't done any mods yet but researching what i want to do. I currently am living in the Chicago area. I am a Drill Instructor for the Navy and have been for about the last year and 10 months. Mainly on here to learn more about my car and what can be done with it. This is all new territory for me considering my past few cars were '85 F-150, '84 CJ-7, and a '04 Nissan Quest (DONT ASK!).

Hey Oldskool,

Yep, they are 19X8 RS4 replica's. They are less offset than the originals so that they fit under the guards OK.

Hello everyone i love the site its nice to know theres so many people out there who love there vw as much as i do. i can see you guys have the ansures to almost every question ive had but im in a bit of a pickle. my 08 gray gti was resently in a accident with a white tail deer.(witch really blows) but in turn i had the oppertunity to costom paint my hood to match the lines coming off the grill and i also have made an app. to get the roof to match. my pickel is that i also have made an app. with a pinstriper who does awsome work so he can run the red off my grill right up the hood. but to me it seems like the car could use alittle more than that i was thinking mabe red black and yellow to match the germen flag but im unable to find any pictures to give me any ideas. Id like to know what u guys think of the colers and if any one has some pics or could find some that would be awsome
thanx for the help PEACE

Taking Delivery of an 09 Black 4 Door, DSG, 18"s w/ Sunroof, Premium Sound.
Trading in an 08 Saturn Astra with 4K miles. Took a bit of a beating on the Trade for that, but it was a zero balance car.
I am stressing a bit with them DRIVING the car to from Cinci, OH up to Metro Detroit.(300 Miles) though.

hello this is MY first new car ever. i've always driven used cars people i know have been selling. so when it finally came time to buy new it was between the mazdaspeed 3 and the gti w/dsg. i drove the mazda first and was it fast! then i drove the gti and it was quick but i fell in love with the dsg. that sold me on the gti right there and i've been lovin' it since. thanks

Hi all,

I'm coming all the way from over the pond - UK :-D Great site, many useful tips and great pics of Golfs (I'm talking to you raton8, that looks sweet!!).

As for myself, I have a 2004 Golf MkV 1.9 TDi - its my 2nd car and I got it when I was 19 and had it for 2 yrs so far. Haven't done any work on it because money is tight (recession and all :-p) but have decided to upgrade the sound system, hence why I joined the forum.

Oh and if anyone has a R32 to give away hook me up :-D
