I hit a curb going about 5mph or so on the driver side. Now it seems as if the steering wheel is about 1 inch to the left when I'm going straight. At any rate, it doesn't feel the same after I hit that curb. I'm guessing I'll need an alignment to fix this. Should I take it to the dealer or am I safe taking it to an alignment shop close to our house? Thanks.

a regular alignment shop will be fine...you will get documentation from it and they will probably do a better job and for a lot less $ than a dealership. i dont see any way that an alignment could be grounds for warranty voiding, right?

if you were only going 5 mph I doubt there's anything bent or broken. Take it to the local shop and get it done, then re-evaluate.

something bent , alignments dont usually just get knocked out unless something was loose. It can fix the problem, but i would check the rods from the tie rod ends to the rack to see if one is bent.

that's not bad at all...considering one alignment runs 60 bucks, now just make sure you keep the car a few years

Yeah especially since I'll need another one once I install some new springs.

you can get as many as you want, or is there a limit per year?

I didn't read the details but I assumed lifetime meant unlimited alignments for the life of your car. I'm guessing you got the alignment from them too? If it's transferrable then that's even better! :w00t:

I live in CA, but have to believe that this is nation wide - go to your friendly Firestone Service Center and buy their 'Lifetime' Alignment agreement. If you drive on marginal roads (don't we all?) or fool with your suspension, this offer can not be refused. We can get our cars aligned monthly if needed.
Hope this helps -

Just wanted to update anyone searching for lifetime alignment...
I have my appointment tomorrow with firestone...it is NOT transferrable to another vehicle...but its on special right now for 129.
VW wanted 129 for a one time alignment cause my steering wheel is off...I can now tell them to go scratch lol.

Any of you guys who went to Firestone have lowering springs on your ride? I ask because I went to Firestone for an alignment after I had an Eibach cupkit installed and they refused to do it because they said the specs VW would provide for the alignment wouldn't be valid because the drop changes the geometry of the suspension. Just curious if this happened to anyone else.

Yeah. They asked why I needed an alignment. I told them. Didn't think it would be an issue.

is there some kind of a spec sheet or something i heard there was something out so you could tell them when doing alignment and it would make it so they align the wheels to vw factory spec? or am i just stupid? :)
