Has anyone done this? Im thinking about taking the screen off the MAF later and if it actually works.

Uh.....It keeps shit out though. Also, I thought I read on some other boards, not for this car, where the MAF ended up going bad down the road. I can't see how this is a HP gain though......not enough though.

Descreening the MAF is not a good idea. The sensor is very sensitive and the screen is meant to even out the flow of air before it is measured by the sensor. Say you have a CAI with a 90 degree bend just befor the MAF, this will cause turbulence and change your a/f ratio and cause damage to your engine over time. This screen causes the air to dissipate and flow evenly over the sensor to accurately calculate the density of the air charge and how much fuel to add to the mixture.

Yeah, I agree. Dont mess with it. Gains arnt worth the trouble for what could happen in the future.

It's not a very restrictive one anyway.

Think of the MAF like the front screen door on your house on a hot summer day. Yeah it might make it a tiny bit easier for the breeze to get in if you remove the screen on the door. But, do you really want to deal with all the creepy crawly things getting in and not to mention the bug bites....
Nice resurrection by the way... you know there are some people who are still thinking about doing this.

that screen has nothing to do with keeping things out, that job is done entirely by your filter. Unless you have the main filter out you don't need the maf screen to clean your air.
You do need it to straighten and make more uniform the airflow over your maf. As stated above you could end up with problems.
Unless you plan to do this and do lots and lots and lots of data logging to make sure it hasn't caused a/f issues, don't do it...

I was thinking more of those who replace the stock filter with aftermarket and don't clean it regularly.....come on we all know who you are. Plain and simple point we are all getting at....don't do it.
