i spoke to the techs and the regional tech advisor and they said that VW has not authorize dealers to fix the soft clipping feature and that fixing it might void the warranty. wtf!?

wow, thats not very nice. I'm glad I have the navi unit without soft clipping.
But, I'm sure I have read that others on here (at least one for sure) has had it fixed by the dealer

Which part of your car would no longer be under warranty??? the engine, the little light for the vanity mirrors???
Sounds like a hollow threat to me.. :bs:
If VW haven't authorised it, why can you book this radio flash over the VW usa website??

I emailed VWoA and they told me to make an appointment w/ my dealer and they would be available to guide my dealer to a fix. I haven't got around to it. Once I added the amped subwoofer, I haven't noticed it near as much.

I just had mine reflashed to remove the soft clipping. Works great now.
I went through the same procedure. Emailed VW, got a call back within 2 days. Was assigned a case number, Made an appointment at local dealership, gave them the car and case number, VW guided tech through reflash procedure.
Headunit sounds great now. I dont even think I will be adding anything to the system. (well besides some kind of aux input for the ipod)

wtf is soft clipping?
soft clipping is the factory radio's way of limiting the volume when it thinks the speakers will distort. It will cut the volume when it deems appropriate to attempt to protect the speakers.

Yes.That is why you cant hear the stereo when going 80 with the windows all the way down. Now I can hear the stereo all the time and it does not cut the volume down

I shut this off using info from another thread where you push the tuning button while the radio is off. I can't remember the exact sequence, but I didn't have to go to the dealer to get it done. I think it was the speed sensitivity setting or something. Sorry, it's late.....

It was on this site. It went something along the lines of with the radio off, hold the tune button for four or five seconds. this will prompt a menu and I can't remember if you scroll through the options with the tune knob and select with the preset buttons under the choice you want. Each screen will highlight different buttons. Try that, if it doesn't work, pm me and I will have confirmed by then as to the actual step by step.

what you shut off bigdyno was the auto volume control that works with speed. Thats not the soft clipping, that has to be done with a vag-com(computer) at the dealer or by someone with a vag-com set up on there lap-top. To Test this just crank up your bass, then crank the volume, then when your way up there lower the bass and the volume will go up, thats soft clipping.

What he said...
I think you'll find the speed sensitive adjusting volume thing actually increases volume as your speed increases to compensate for road noise without you having to increase it manually.

Is this just a US problem as my RCD300 does not do this...?

I understand soft clipping well. Before I did this, adjusting the bass did increase the volume. That's what drove me crazy: I would speed up and the volume would increase and then the bass would cut and the volume would decrease. It was like an annoying six year old at the controls, only they were invisible.
Now, when I turn up the stereo, regardless of bass, mid range or treble it gets loud and stays loud. Also, the volume isn't affected by the speed.
I can't speak for anyone else's car, but when I made this change on my car, it sorted out the "automatic adjustment problems" that were outlined earlier. Maybe I did some special top secret up,up,down, down, left, right,a,b,a,b sequence, but my radio is under my control now. And I like bass....and no I don't mean fish........

I went to the dealer and they dont have a clue about this, they heard my problem and they even let me be there with the VAS computer, I even press buttons and tried to remove the SC on the radio functions but there was no way, so they are emailing VW puebla, I should call them tomorrow if they have the sequence or the reflash program.

Does anyone have the $160 iPod adapter for the MkV? If so, what are your experiences? Thanks.
