will it be the 06' or the 07' GTI

hi there to everyone, i placed an order on my new gti last week the dealer told me that it will come in oct or nov he is not too sure and he is going to contact me when the build date is set...........i would just like to know if it is going to be the 06 or the 07 plate model and if there is going to be any main diff tanx for all your help :help: lol:respekt:

I think MY2007 begins in August. If your car is due in october or november, you're looking at a build date of Aug-Sept.

Not sure what, if any, changes there will be.

afaik the 07 is the same as the 06 which is different to the 05.

i like the 05 as i dont like the arial on the roof.

and the shiny chrome i like better.

If anything, you'll lose features... Perhaps you'll get lucky and it'll be just like 06...

There were quite a few shortcuts taken and features dropped from 05 to 06.

It's well known that VW is bringing forward the MkVI Golf because the current model costs too much to produce. They're certainly not about to add cost to it...

features and quality too, as they are not spending as much time on them either so some things can go missed.

i would look at a 05 model 2nd hand but that is just me..

I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but im not sure your dealer knows what he's on about. Unless it gonna get built b4 week 22 then it will be an 06 plate, but from week 22 onwards, the 07 plates begins. Week 22 starts on May 29, 2006. If you just placed your order I doubt very much that you will get an 06 plate, unless it's someone elses allocation, in which case the car build date would be confirmed by now with a commision number and delivery should be around late July - early August.
There are a few changes in the 07 spec model but they're minor.

- Stock blue tint film in windows will be changed to green
- Automatic employment of warning lights under emergency braking
- 3 large head rests in the rear
- Whiplash optimised headrests
- Change to front courtesy light – discontinuation of the middle lamp and housing is no longer lacquered
- Radio and navigation systems – change to chrome surrounds on knobs
- Change of icon on the lock/unlock button
- Location of the airbag warning label will be on the B pillar rather than next to the windscreen
- Centre console foot space covering for front passengers in black only (beige and grey discontinued)

That may be different for the UK delivered cars which are from Wolfsburg tho... It also seems very, very, very early in the year to change to MY07. It's usually around 1st week in August...

True. But I did check with VW Australia and they confirmed it. My car is due to be built in week 21 (ordered late Jan), although they are known to be incorrect from time to time LOL. Regardless whichever version it is, it's going to be one awsome car! Can't wait...

The blue tint is one of the things that made the GTI stand out from the crowd of regular golfs. Sounds like VW are cutting more costs each year, I guess im glad that I got the 06, although the 05 is arguably better still.

yes i got my vin number and it is a 2006 model dealer said it shouldnt be tooo long before i get my car

If you've got a Vin # it means the car is either built or is very close to being built. Either way I'd say you'd have less than two months before your driving the beast! Congrats!

I spoke to VW yesterday regarding my build date and the guy I spoke to seemed to think that MY07 production starts in August? My car is being built in July and it was marked as MY06 but he couldn't 100% confirm it.

If I were you I wouldn't worry too much dthong. It will be a cracking car regardless of the version. They both have their pros and cons. A MY07 will give you better resale value down the track and the 06 will give you slightly better quality windows (maybe). There are many conflicting views whether it's June, July or August. Time will tell. Just hope its not a lemon the rest is negligible.

Depending on the date that models changed and going by the MY05 to MY06 change. If your order was confirmed before the model change date than you should receive 06 model, otherwise 07.

FYI MY05 to MY06 change was on 29th April 05

Are you not getting one off the lot now b/c of finances, b/c if your just wanting your own built...change ur mind and get one now...while they are 06's because dealers will be selling off their current inventory to get ready for the new ones..

the problem in Australia is that we don't have any at the dealers due to the backlog of people waiting to order them. The only ones they would have are demos or cancelled orders (and they usually end up getting allocated to someone who ordered months ago and who just couldn't be bothered waiting)

the dealer gave me a call 2 day saying the car is due to come eithere july or august for sure and at the moment he thinks the car is built lol anywayz i cant wait to drive it when i get it should be fun oh you think i should take it easy on the way home or rip the road apart tanx

If the car has been or is about to be built, you should have a chassis number any day now. once you've got that we can finally settle once and for all if you'll be getting an 06 or 07.

Your VIN will be VWVZZZ1KZ6U****** or 7U****** No prize for guessing the 6 or the 7 is the model year. Going from my VIN, I think yours will be something like VWVZZZ1KZ6U031300-ish range, the last 6 digits are the serial number.
