After admiring Shifty's new paint job on his MKV, I noticed he also installed a "stubby" antenna. Since I'm not a fan of the superlong OEM antenna, I thought I'd give it a try.
Here's a little step by step with a mod that costs less than $29!

Uninstall the factory antenna by just unscrewing it...

After seeing how much shorter the Hummer H2 antenna is, it does require a little modification...

Radio reception doesn't really seem to be affected that much. Then again, most probably listen to CDs or MP3s.
Also, this antenna is from a 2003 H2 (roof mounted, passenger side of car). After 2003, they went to a fender mounted antenna (about 4 feet long).

Thats looks nice. I've seen a shortened antenna on my friends Mk4 and it got me thinking how i could go abouts doing that. Thanks for this thread.

Most of the short stubby antennas will fit this car. I think the screw size is the same across the board with most manufacturers.

Yeah, I think the fin looks nicer and plan on keeping it. Nice way to get rid of that whip though:thumbsup:

beware about that...i'm not so sure that all antennas have the same screw size base. i bought a stubby (considering i had one of those 4 foot long ones on before) for my car, and it came with different adapter bases so that all makes and models would be compatible with it.

Err, maybe not--some jerk might get frustrated that it does not screw off and start forcing it off--next thing you know you have a $800 roof repair . . .
but hey, you would still have your antenna . . . .

Jeez I've just enquired with AC Delco in the UK and they want £43.75 or about $78 for this part.

Call around and talk to the parts manager. Tell him what your planning and tell him could you at least give me your cost on the item. With AC DELCO most gm dealerships have a heavy markup because lets face it. ITS GM.
Called my cousin COST for employee is 16$ USD. Hope that info helps out. Also theres mention of a better antenna that they use on the soulstace (however you spell it) that may be shorter. =)

i've got a S2000 antenna on mine. fits perfectly, no modifications. the bottom of the antenna is a little wider than the base on the car, but it still looks good.
