Anyone out there know of where to get some really cheap generic steel rims that will fit the GTI? I know that winter is faw away but wanna start looking for a set of winter rims while its on my mind.

Please let me know where to get it and the minimum size that will fit. I want to get like 15" skinny tires if possible. I dont care about how it will look.

I had 15"s on my last GTI, a MKIV for the winter. It worked great. It is really hard to find 15''s in this 5x112 pattern. When I went to try and put the wheels on my A4 last winter which also uses a 5x112 bolt pattern, Discount Tire actually had to fabricate some wheels for me. They said that 5x112's with such a small diameter wheel were really non-existent. It was already January and they said it would be 6-8 weeks so I told them to skip it.

I have the tires still and wheels but they are 5x110. The whole set up is for sale on Vwvortex currently. If you're interested I'd sell you just the tires. They had 1 season on them, and then weren't used last winter as I said. They are just sitting in my garage and I really really need to get rid of them. Let me know.

How are you gonna get 15" wheels on the front axle if you have 16" brake discs on that same axle?? Good luck trying that.

Right. So my question was... What is the minimum wheel size? 16"?

16" is the absolute minimum wheel size for fitting over the big brakes on the front axle and could even possibly rub on the inside with the brake caliper if you take wheels with an ET of 48 or 50.

There have been several postings of 17 inch rims for about 99 bucks each and they were fairly attractive at that. No need to go crazy with the winter wheels, get a set of 17's - or else just put an all season tire on???
