from what i understand...the switch itself is plug and play...but inorder to make use of the functions that the euro switch has...such as parkinglights only....u will need someone to do VAG-COM work
maybe someone that has one can fill u in more...but thats what ive come to understand...cuz i wanted so very badly to have just my parking lights on...but i needed the euro switch and vag-com work inorder for that to happen

You need a Vag-Com to shut off the DRL function. Cool thing is while they are up in there with the program they can do other cool stuff.

If you install the euroswitch without the vagcom, you'll throw a bulb out warning light.
Install it when you can get it vagcom'd.
-Disable the DRLs
Also:
-Enable the remote window conv. feature
and a bunch of other minor tweeks.....

I don't think so. On vw.oempl.us the european headlight switch for the MK4 Golf has partnumber 1C0941531A while the european headlight switch for the MK5 Golf has partnumber 1K0941431A. Looking like 2 totally different light switches to me.

Correct, the switches are different.
here is the website to search for people locally with a vagcom.

just make sure they have the new hex+can cable that is needed on the MKV's.
I have the euro switch and vagcom I did the modification in 5 minutes.
