I haven't seen very many pics of U.S. standard issue GTI's on this site. They sit a little higher and the standard rims are 17" BBS-esque snowflakes. Here's the one we just picked up for my wife (and me, of course!). We live just outside Phoenix, Arizona, btw.

But a completely black GTI misses something to my opinion. While on a white or UG GTI the black grill sticks out to show that it is a GTI which I find really cool and with a black GTI you sorta loose that cool effect

I think it's a cool idea, I don't know if I'd go to the expense, but a cool idea. I do think some crome elswhere on the car helps. The mirrors are a nice touch.

I think what the black really begs for is a little more red. I'm getting gray but if I were to get black, I'd put a red stripe on the doorstrip. Retro, yes... but I like it.

Couple questions about the eyelids you have on there:

1) Did you use VW paint on them or just any black you could find?

2) How did you attach them to the headlight assembly?

I have a pair of eyelids sitting around, but i'm deciding on how to go about installing....

You have to know that they use the European HP, not the BHP (which is 0.746 HP per KW). The European HP is 0.736 HP per KW so that really makes 147 KW be 200 HP.

You are right about the 197 but that figure is not HP but BHP which is the metric horsepower.

I haven't seen very many pics of U.S. standard issue GTI's on this site. They sit a little higher and the standard rims are 17" BBS-esque snowflakes. Here's the one we just picked up for my wife (and me, of course!). We live just outside Phoenix, Arizona, btw.

for the most part nada. i heard a bit on the front at first, but that has resolved itself once I tightened the dampening up. the significant drop aint for the faint of heart though. you will never look at potholes/speedbumps and steep driveways the same way:wink:

btw...got the APR and it is unfreakin believable. best grand i ever spent:biggrin:

H&R Sports and Koni Sport Adjustable Shocks/Struts. However, the rear springs are the "red" replacement springs that H&R sent me...took care of the terrible rake that the original spring had provided. I love it now...perfect for me. A lot of people have been complaing about the ride quality of the H&R sports, and all I can say is that I love the ride with these springs and the Koni struts. :thumbsup:

Anyway, I live in Australia and in the numberplate above ACT stands for Australian Capital Territory - It's not a tuning company. Also, I think DG is probably just the owner's initials.

The Red GTI badge comes originally from the 25th anniversary GTI, which was a MK4 model. That's also the reason that the front red GTI badge ain't gonna fit on the grill of the MK5 GTI. The easiest way to get it is to buy a red GTI hatch emblem (http://www.tmtuning.com/HOME/catalog/product_detail.php?default_product=1199) and to replace the original letters from your front GTI badge with these letters.

the koni "adjustable" struts/shocks are commonly refered to as the "koni sports", these are entirely different from the Koni FSD shocks/struts.

Pretty cool, but you need to blur the front part of the car you can see through the windshield LOL with everything else being blurred....it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Nope, can't get them here in the US. You''d have to spend a fortune to have them custom made. I thought that's what the guy in the pic did? Am I wrong? I thought I remembered him saying he had them done somewhere after buying the GTI because leather cost a lot of Euro's over there.:iono:

i really dig the OEM 17" wheels powdercoated black, on a BMP GTI. i think i may end up doing this. just need to find some OEM 17" wheels for a decent price. :smile:

Interlagos cloth converted to what you see in the pic = 1600 euro
Leather package from VW = 2040-something euro
