View Full Version : AUX jack for stock Headunit (Non IPOD Specific)

Just wondering if VWOA has any type of harness to allow the stock, non navi head unit an AUX miniplug jack.
I DO NOT want an IPOD kit which would show/control ipod functions through the headunit. I still want to select my music etc from the player itself.
(Also want to be able to hook up my PSP Laptop Portable DVD player to the jack for playback through the car stereo as well).
Please advise. The AUX adapter in the OEM Parts sticky thread lists that part as applying to the NAVI head unit only.

There was some new adapters that came in at work. I will see if they work with the headunit.

Thank you very much. My IPOD was used daily in my last car with my Alpine headunit through an aux jack. It's tough getting used to the commute without it and I know most FM modulators are medicre at best.

What about installing an FM Modulator?
Not the crappy iTRIP design, The type I am talking about are the ones that connect to a 12v lead and also connect in line with the antenna connection on the back of the head unit.
Does anyone know if the GTI has a standard antenna connector on it or is it some proprietary VW type?

We carry an item at work that works with the factory headunit for the Golf up to 05. That was as far as the list on the packageing goes. It allows you to hook up anything to it sound wise. The radios are differant on the MKIV and the MKV....not sure about the changer plugs, thats what it uses to plug into.

I am using my mk4 double din Monsoon Blitzsafe aux input adapter(enfig.com) with my mk5 oem 6-disk mp3 head unit. The harness plug is the same.

They are talking about the Jetta I think. I can't remember the price or name of the unit we carry at Best Buy...but when I get to work in a bit I will post it.

No,....I don't think thats the same. Mine plugs into the back of the headunit.
This one, with the white plug:
http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/VW_AUX_DMX_V5.html
That plugs into the aux input/sat socket on the back of the NON-sat MP3 radio. The SAT radio uses this socket for input so this adapter will only work on the NON-sat(MP3) headunit.

oK thanks. looks like I need the sat passthrough cable too. I'm guessing I dont need the passthrough if I am not using the sat.

The plug we carry is from Peripheral and is $130. I imagine to install something like this is just a custom labor depending on where you want it installed.

I did the install myself. It's not hard if your careful.
Yeah, the socket is unoccupied if you don't have sat.

so does that mean your sat button actually activates the aux jack?

So let me get this straight, if I do have a SAT radio (XM) I can install this adaptor to get my Ipod working, but I loose the SAT? I know I have to use the IPOD to control, but do not care as I miss my Ipod hella lot.

I'm in the same situation as you. but I believe that if you buy the passthrough harness both the sat and ipod will work, just one at a time.
It's on the right side of the screen from the link above.

Ok, just to clarify.....
I am only sure that this adapter works with the NON-sat/MP3 radio, which has the rear sockets empty.
I don't have an iPod, and this aux input has ONLY an RCA input, not iPod controls, so you'd have to mount/control the iPod seperately.
To activate my adapter I simply push the CD button to cycle between normal CD operation and "CD 99". "CD 99" will display and the letters "EXT." will show in the upper right corner of the display.

The SAT and NAV radios probably have the socket occupied by the SAT control box harness.
See http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/index.html for the latest info on an adapter for the SAT radio.

I've ben using the one from Enfig for the last 3 months and I tihnk it's the best adapter out there.
I have no interest in Sat radio so it works fine.
I control everything except sound through the Ipod itself.
It sounds excellent. The factory radio cuts out less using this then a CD.
I've got it running through my drivers side glovebox. If i was a little more handy I would have put it in the center console. The good thing about the glovebox is that I can lock it.
Just like the other person said, you just press the CD button twice and it goes over to the Ipod. You can press the CD button again and it will play your CD's.

$69 one
This helps for the install.
http://www.uk-mkivs.net/forums/thread/170840.aspx
Direct wired audio input
Charges the iPod while the radio is on and for 20 minutes after you turn off the radio.
Connects to the CD changer port behind your radio.
Will work with all in-dash CD players and Changers.
Works with ALL Monsoon and non Monsoon radios.
Will not lock out the controls on the iPod.
The biggest reason I like it is because it doesn't require you to use playlists like the others do.
