the footrest in the brushed metal thingy? and does your CD player play mp3 files?
i never saw the footrest and the cd player rejects mp3 cds even though the manual says they should work.

Unless you got one of the first GTIs (2005) you are out of luck. It was one of those things that was deleted. You can't even get it OEM now. I tried, but they can't seem to source RHD ones.
The CD player does not play mp3 files. I think the US ones do though.

Mines a 2006 GTI. The footrest is plain black plastic. The CD does play itunes MPEG4 files downloaded and copied to CD, so I assume it plays MP3 versions
Is this what you are seeking

Nike61, is your a 6stacker in the dash, or the 6stacker under the armrest?
Mine doesn't seem to play mp3s and its a 6stacker in the dash

Mines in the dash and not had any problem playing copied files to CD. I use Roxio to copy files either directly or via itunes. Also download via www.allofmp3.com, so no issues here. :iono:

But when you burn MP3s to the CD, does it convert it to WAV files? If you can only fit 15-20 songs on a CD...chances are you are converting them...
Mine is a 06, no foot rest and does not play MP3..:frown:

yeah im talking raw .mp3 files not converted to audio files, i have already done that.
as for the footrest what cheap bastards :(
nike61
02-05-2007, 06:46 PM
No SatNav. Raw mp3, havent tried this, but my understanding is that when burning to CD they do actually do some form of conversion, that is unless you use Windows Explorer to copy and paste?
I'm not sure of your issue, as if you get Nero or Roxio and burn to CD it will convert and you can play.

Yep it's only on LHD versions. They refer to them as a 'dead pedal'.
If they made them for RHD, it would actually be a weird shape.
The footrest on our RHD cars actually goes into the base of the centre console. So not like a straight or flush rectangle.
As for playing mp3, just get an ipod connector of some sort and never have to worry about songs being repeated. Although has anybody worked out where the 'repeat' function/button is on our head units? I have the RCD500 and I can't believe it isn't there.
Anyhow plenty of discussions on this and other forums on what's available.

how does the ipod connector work?
Either get one that transmits from your ipod to head unit via an FM signal. So you hear your ipod via the radio function. I can recommend Monster (i.e. the mob that make HD and audio cables) for this. As I've tried a few before and Monster has the least radio interference. Should be able to pick one up from an Apple store. You basically power it and your ipod via the cigarette lighter.
The more expensive but more efficient alternatives are hard wired ones and plug straight into the back of your head unit and play via the CD function.
There's a factory VW connector, Dension, Connect2 (just to name a few). Just do a search and do some reading up.

Yep same here.
I noticed in Repco the other day you can buy a ricer foot rest similar in style to the GTI's pedals. It sticks on with doublesided tape and then screws in. I was nearly going to buy one ($13) to see if it would fit the rest on the accelerator side.

Yeah, I found out last night that mine doesn't play MP3s - despite what the manual says! Tried a couple of CDs with different formats with no success. Hey, anyone had trouble with the CD player skipping tracks. Sometimes mid way through a track it decides you want to listen to the start of the song again, or the next song. Nothing to do with the actual CDs as it happens on new purchased ones & copies. Asked dealer to have a look and they found no fault. Any ideas?

I was using a Belkin TuneFM in my GTI initially, but trying to find a free frequency in Sydney was getting harder and harder.
I finally broke down and got the Connect2 kit for my car, from the Car Kit Company where I got my bluetooth car kit as well. (Thankfully, I didn't have to pay for it as it was a Christmas present)
I have the ipod in the glove box now and it's brilliant!!
I have a factory iPOD adaptor and it works well (not sure who makes it?) - you can alternate through playlists via the CD buttons on the SatNAV facia (I figure the non stanav setup would be the same deal) - you can then scroll through the tracks from the steering wheel. You lose access to the clicker wheel function on the iPOD so if you want to listen to an album you need to disconnect, choose the album, reconnect the iPOD and then it will play (unless Im doing it wrong?). You get a VW badge on the iPOD screen which is cool. Re the cable is in the glove box - mines only 1 month old and it already has a pinch mark where from where the glove box shuts - not sure if it will be an issue after prolonged use? Overall Im happy with it.

I use belkins adaptor to tune in to the radio...a bit of PITA but works a treat and cheap too..I tune in to 106.8 or 107.8...usually there are no interferance on those channels in Sydney...

If you don't have SatNav, you can't use the steering wheel controls
Yeah, the VW and the Denison one locks the ipod controls, but the Connect2 one doesn't, however, it does have it's own idiosyncracies. No pinch marks on mine as I leave it in the glove box and not out
I was using several frequencies, but for some reason or rather, none of them have been usable throughout all my travels, thus requiring me to change stations :( Now I don't have to :) I was using 95.7, 100.6, 106.7 and 107.8 as the 4 stations, I think
I don't understand why there isn't a product like Alpine's KCA-420i. I have one of these babies in my car right now. Its so easy to use. You can't control the iPod whilst connected, but ALL functionality is shifted to the headunit when connected.
I want to be able to choose one of my many albums from the steering wheel controls and have full ID3 tag information displayed on the HU screen and/or MFD. Is this too much to ask?
grrr...

My enquiries previously also suggested that VW don't make them at all for RHD.

Once we have a "number" it's somewhere to start.

superj, please try and find out if there is a part number for that dead pedal when you see the dealer tomorrow.
I asked a bloke at TM Tuning whom I've dealt with before and his response was...
"Regarding the RHD dead pedal, that item is unavailable. Germany's VW does not manufacture that particular item for RHD. The forum member posting that must be driving a LHD drive model, because the dead pedal for RHD does not exist. If he really does have the dead pedal for RHD, please provide me with the part number so that we can investigate this further and check for its availability.
It would be interesting to see if we get anywhere with this.

Be a nice finish, matching the other two, as I can see the plastic bit looking pretty shabby in a year or two.
