Today on the way to a Super Bowl party, I saw what I though was a Rabbit. Turned out to be a black 2007/2008 .:R32. Got closer and on the left of the tag it said going vertical MFG. I called Alf, and he figured it was a manufacturer test car. Didn't have anything special....just looked like a regular car on the road.

I pulled up next to the guy to ask him for info, but he didnt see me waving lol. I beeped the horn, only for 2 seconds later the guy behind me to beep at me (green light ahead of me).

Just though I would share--pretty cool to finally see them in the States--let alone the furthest state from Germany (except Alaska probably).

How much do you think they will go for?

Pretty neat. How loud was it compared to the stock MK4 R32 exhaust?

Well, the MK4 R32 went for about 30-32k new I think, and that was in 2004. Add in options such as NAV and other things, and you'll probably be looking at 33k+? Just a rough estimate. Too bad the states are only getting DSG equipped R32's. Maybe they'll be smart like BMW was with the M5 and offer a 6MT eventually.

not THAT much...i mean i could see if from straight ahead you might think an R32 was a jetta for a second, but a rabbit is body colored front grille, not very similar to lots and lots of chrome or brushed whatever they want to call it

anyways, sweet deal seein an .:R in person...can't wait till i see my first one

i wouldnt, simply for the fact that the US only gets DSG:mad:  :iono:  Now, if we got a 6mt, id trade my honeycomb in in a second! I still dont get why they wont bring the 6mt over right away. They are gonna get the same complaints BMW got with the new M line and bring it over later i bet...

Most likely has to do with emissions testing.

doubt it, it sholdnt make that big of a difference.... and even if it does, why the decision to do 3 door ONLY and no 5.... thats certainly not emisison related.

I only have 2 really bad cell pics, I checked in my phone it was actually April, when I saw it.... There were lots of posts on the vortex then about people seeing the same car all over Cali.. It had a Cali MFG plate on it.

I will transfer the pics and post....there are many better ones on the vortex

While I'll agree it's one of the top sounding engine tones, there are others that come close. This is all my opinion of course.

Porsche Boxer 6's
Ferrari V8's
Porsche Carrera GT 5.7L V10
most modded small block Chevy's

Don't take this the wrong way but 3 doors is sportier than 5, and since the R32 is VWs top of the line sports car, thats probably why. Anyone who wants more doors can get the R36

The MK5 R32 is available in The Netherlands for quiet some time now, and I must say, I see more R32 on the roads here than GTI. The GTI is very rare to see, I don't understand. I've seen some R32 from very close, but hummmm, I prefer the GTI when it comes to looks

People always want what they can't have. That's why everyone always wants the stuff the Europeans get and the Europeans want the stuff the Americans get.

I like the R32 but I agreee with you, the GTI looks better.

:iono: i dont really care for the look of the 5 door anyways. I just personally think VW is making some poor decisions. Why not keep the market open to as many people as possible?

they want to be cheap...but they will get some sense knocked into them after it gets released, just as BMW did with their new M5...it's only a matter of time.

*sigh* VW always needs sense knocked into them. I met this guy where i used to work, he was a regular customer, and he has a MK IV R32, he worked for VW at the time for many many years. When the MK IV R32 came out in Europe, VW said they would not bring it here. Motor Trend wanted to drive one and convinced VW to bring it to the states, promising that VW would be able to sell them. Hopefully VW realizes there is a 5 door market... and i REALLY hope they learn there is still a manual tranny market!

PS. on a side note, at least DSG is smooth. My friends dad has the new M6 with SMG, its actually not that smooth under casual driving.

It still needs to be tested and certified before it can be sold here. The UK site lists the emissions levels for each car.

R32 Manual: Engine emissions 255g/km

R32 DSG: Engine emissions 231g/km

DSG puts out less on average. (Most likely because of lower shift points than the average manual driver).

I'd love it if they brought a 4/5 door out here though.

I agree. Double poop because the whole reason they dropped the 3.6L is because it wouldn't fit in front of the DSG tranny.

I say give us the 3.6 with 40 more hp (or close to it, whatever) and just mate it to the 6 speed manual!!!

Yeah, I can agree with those too, except for the E46 M3. Maybe someone makes a sweet sounding aftermarket exhaust for it, but the stock exhaust sounds like a tin can or something retarded for a 55k+ car. I've been the passenger in a SMG equipped M3, don't get me wrong, they are super nice and I wish I still had one, but the stock exhaust note doesn't do anything for me. I'll agree with the Mustang GT/Cobra's too, even though I'm not much of a Ford fan. But their 4.6L does sound sweet, especially the 2003-2004 Cobra's. Okay, back on topic.

Yeah, the video comparing the stock M3 exhaust to the Milltek exhaust was pretty good. I dislike the tin-can sound of the stock exhaust, like I previously mentioned. The Milltek was somewhat better. That silver M3 with the Super Spring exhaust though. That was incredible.:respekt: Thanks for sharing.
