Can't comment on that area, however London is very expensive....for everything. I used to live about 30 miles North of London and that was bad enough.
Saying that, it is a great place to live, very hustle and bustle and always on the go.
As to useful words to learn:
Gas - Petrol
Trunk - Boot
Hood - Bonnet
e-brake - handbrake
There are many, many more. It is amazing that the same language can have so many different words to say the same thing.

Someone cleverer than me said that: 'England and America are two countries separated by a common language'
And we shan't even get on the subject of how to correctly pronounce 'Aluminium' !

If your not used to living a city your in for a shock. Personally I can't stand London and have never liked it.
If I was you i'd try and find some place out of the 'big smoke' that is easily commute'able from. I live 40 miles west of London and from Reading, which is just down the road, you can get to paddington in 30 minutes on the fast train.
If your on MSN, then feel free to holla at me anytime man. I have mates (buddy's) that live in london and commute to london on a daily bassis.

London: great place to visit, cr@p place to live. Especially if you're a car owner. It's so anti-car there it's almost a religion. Can't help you on local knowledge for Bow Road as I know areas a little further east than that. I'm a member of a West Ham forum though, I'll ask on there & see if anyone knows.
Trouble is, much the same as most forums, for every useful post there's 2 or 3 people boosting their post counts saying nothing!

dude, this is too nice. thanks!! i owe you.
and yeah, that's exactly what i've heard about bow road... but there's going to be some big money that'll feed into the area for the olympic bid. *shrug* -- probably won't affect my schedule.
thanks again. i'll keep checking... or even make an account.

You'll have to swear alliegance to West Ham United. You don't know what suffering is until then.

Well I've lived in London all my life and never been to Bow Road. Maybe driven past it, tube'd around it or walked around it. But to be honest as well, I'd live on the outskirts and commute in to. I already do, except I'm from the North end of London and hence work in the North end.
London is expensive, petrol aka gas is hideously expensive compared to what your used to. And to what the Americans are, sorry guys driven from LA to San Francisco on a tank of gas before. And that cost me $26 which is chicken feed to over here. My old BMW used to cost me £45 to fill up.
So don't drive into town unless you have to. Secondly speed cameras are a new population to themselves in and around London. Heck England itself is becoming will probably be named Speed Camera Land soon.
Oh and as for supporting West Ham, don't bother. Their'll probably be a Championship side soon, unless they pull their act together. As long as you don't support Chelsea, you'll be alright to most Londoners.
As for the congestion charge, you have to pay to enter certain parts of London if your driving. Most don't bother to enter in the first place. The only quick and relatively easy way to get around London is the underground. If you do bring your car, then prepare for the insurance hike too. That depends on the area, but London is known for it's car thieves. Like all places it has it's pluses and minuses. Best way would be come to over for a holiday for a couple of weeks first. Go house hunting and scout the area you may want to live. Be warned that tourists stick out like sore thumbs over here, so if you can meet up with any friends do so. That way you won't look like a tourist... to much. And hence won't be easy pickings for the scum life that prey on the new. Hope this helps, any questions let me know.

Don't worry I wasn't recommending that as a course of action, it's just that the thread in question was posted on a huge West Ham forum as that's the area he was looking at. Supporting West Ham is nothing but pain and disappointment, not something I could recommend to anyone in good conscience. We already are a Championship side, it's nailed on now.
You forgot to tell him to avoid Arsenal for the same reason as Chelski! All glory hunters, just been supporters for a couple of years longer!
Anyway, time to change my avatar, I come on here to avoid thinking about football, tricky with my set up at present. :frown:
