Before buying car, I checked with my insurer. That'll be an extra £11.34 for the 8mth balance of the year left to run. So premium goes up to £276 ish with £400 mandatory excess.

£600 odd. I am 38, full Protected NCB, 3 Points.

I only moved back from Ireland 6 weeks before I got Candy so alot of companies would not insure me as I had short residency.
I would expect to pay around £400 upon renewal in 5 weeks.

£925 with Directline for a 2007 GTi. Not bad considering I've only been in the UK 2 months and my 3 year no claims history was earnt outside of the UK.

Is it worth investigating about satellite tracking? Will it help to reduce my total expense even with taking into consideration the cost of the tracking?

Nobber, do you mind telling me know you are insured with? My insurance is up for renewal at the end of the month and I'll be 29 also, slight differance is that I'll be the only driver and I have 11 years no claims. Looks like I have fewer mods than yourself so hopefully I'll be looking at cheeper insurance.

Unfortunatly the ones that have come back so far are 600 quid plus.... I need it cheeper than that!!!!

I just used confused.com but for the record i'm with Elephant of all places! We were with Diamond who couldn't match Elephant's quote, which is mighty odd as they are both part of the Admiral group!!

A few I would try though are:

HIC - 08451 290 290 - Try and speak to Martin and mention your a member of Edition 38.

Drayton Insurance - 01603 262 610 - I was recommended them by the lady who looks after my works vehicles policy. I must admit it was too late for me to call them as i'd taken the policy with Elephant

Adrian Flux - 01553 777 240 - Speak to the guys in the modified department. Sometimes they can come with a good quote, other times they are shite!

Hope this helps man.

Get this, 19 yrs old, 1 yr NCD, can't get a quote under £4k... for an R32, cant get it cheaper than £7k. £7,000. The funny thing is, Einsleigh rang me up the next day to see if I wanted to take it out. for 7 grand a year.

For a GT TDI (140) just under £3k and for a 1.9TDI it's about £1600.

Well here is a shocker for you all,

Have a MK5 GT TDI and was paying £520 ish with Esure, had a GTI bumper/grill and side skirts put on and thought it was the "right" thing to do by telling them and the have now put my insurance up by £70.

The silly thing about this was I questioned that insurance guy about why it was going up that much and he then staring going on about how it improved the handling/performance and aerodynamics. I tried to explain to him that a fancy bumper was not going to really improve the performance, but I could not stop myself from laughing and ended up paying the difference.

But thats is not the ironic thing though, I got a quote from them for a MK5 GTI and it would have cost me just a little over (£20ish) what I was paying for the standard GT TDI

How about that for doing the "right" thing!!!

When I was 19 I managed to get covered on business insurance for £1k per year. When the policy was up for renewal, they changed their policy not insurance under 25's with a fleet of less than 5 cars. I tried to get quotes on GTI with parents under me and came out £2.5k, wasn't justifiable. Hence my departure from the Golf and into a Mazda RX8 with 0NCB for £1400. Insurance premiums are a joke!
