Suddenly my DSG paddles don't do anything, no shifts. Anybody experienced this before and have a solution? It will allow manual shifts with the gear selector but just not paddles.

Any help is appreciated, i'm going to check vagcom codes

I would bet the other controls dont work on the wheel. Its the clock spring and it happens alot on VW's. If you have an aftermarket head unit dealer wont fix it most of the time. If your stock they will fix for free and from what I have found its a stocked part and takes a day. Mine went out and I had to do it myself and it cost me $140 for part at dealer.

Wow that's weird. A clock spring?

Vagcom scan said paddle shifter ground short. Is it possible the cable connecting paddles is loose? I installed the OSIR paddles a month ago, maybe it just came loose?

I tried to clear codes and see if it worked but it didn't :( other steering wheel controls work fine

I had my left downshift paddle act-up intermittently, and then quit working altogether. The manual shifts up and down could still be made consistently in the DSG floor shifter. Mine ended-up being a bad DSG paddle that was replaced under warranty. Since you have installed different paddles it sounds like that might be the smoking gun as you mention, and that something is not making a good connection?

I've got the same problem, and it's intermittent. VAG-COM returns

Pretty unlikely both went at the same time. More likely an electrical problem like the spring.

That's just what it's called, because it's shaped like a clock spring. Still more reliable than slip rings.

You need a new steering wheel.

It could be the clock spring, this is why I've been patient. If an airbag fault shows up, then I'll know for sure, I think (but so far, 3,500 miles later, no other steering wheel related faults have appeared). I've looked at Transmission module, Measuring block 003 to test the paddle switches on the steering wheel. I noticed that when depressing the paddles (vehicle stationary, no motor), it sometimes does not register the event. However, if I press very firmly, quickly, (i.e, quite deliberately), it does, almost always, register. At this point, I'm thinking it's the switches.

My problem looks slightly different from bwood. VAGCOM reports:

a lot of you think it's the 'clock spring'?

I've had this happen to me once a few months back. And just recently but I haven't scanned for codes yet. But I wouldn't doubt it's the same codes. It only happens on the right paddle for me.

I'm having the same issue but only on the upshift side. Vag-Com gives me the same code. I'll have it fixed on next oil change.

which paddles doesn't work?

i had mine fixed long time ago (actually 25k and i'm at 46k now) when Up paddle shift doesn't work while the downshift paddle works. i went to the dealer and it they fixed under warranty. on my paperwork it said "While in tiptronic mode vehicle will not shift up. ran guided fault finding system found fault for up shift button. further inspection found up shift button malfunctioning." and they ordered the up shift button for me to replace my older one

So they only replaced the one paddle not the whole steering wheel?

Just had mine serviced for the same thing as the OP. Steering wheel lost all remote functions to include the horn. Thanks to the input from this thread, I told my service manager it might be the clock spring..... replaced-problem solved.

when you say they replaced the paddle, do you mean the actual paddle we touch, or the part attached to the paddle that has electronics?

according to my invoice it's stated that the dealer ordered the "button" part "1k0-951-528-B-REH" yeah it's the button we touch.

Probably all one piece.

If it's the clock spring usually everything on the wheel doesn't work right. He replaced the shifters with aftermarket ones so I would look there first.

For the left side switch, the part number is 1K0 951 527 B REH and (as stated above), right side switch is 1K0 951 528 B REH. The MSRP per switch, runs $97.50.

Thank you for the help guys, I really appreciate it.

So my understanding is that in my case it's not a broken clock spring because it just the paddles that don't work, and the rest of steering wheel buttons work.

I figure we'll take off my paddles, reinstall, clear codes and test. If not working still, replace right switch. This sound good? I'll send the thread to my mechanic

When my downshift paddle was malfunctioning the dealer techs saw error codes as well and the paddle unit including the electornic module was removed and replaced with a new one. I know the plastic paddle itself was also replaced because I had run the little alloy extenders that use set-screws and after I had gotten rid of them I could always feel a slight rough spot on the left paddle where the set-screws contacted the paddle. After the repair the paddle was smooth. It appeared to me that the entire unit including the new plastic paddle and the electronic unit was replaced as a single item. I haven't had any issues since then.

Quick update:
My friend helped reinstall the upshift paddle tonight and it's working again. Going to scan/clear codes tomorrow and see how it goes!
